One of the most unusual airplanes spotted by ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell at the AOPA Aviation Summit 2013 was Discovery Aviation’s model 201.
It’s a twin-engine airplane that certainly qualifies to be described as “unique.” Jim sat down with Rick Cunliffe, the President and CEO of Discovery Aviation, to get the background on their model 201.
Cunliffe refers to the 201 as an aviation version of an SUV. It’s a high wing, strut braced, twin-engine airplane with a fuselage specifically designed to accept odd cargo. The aft fuselage is actually a boom that supports the twin rudder tail assembly. To try to describe it further is useless; you just have to see the video.
While at the AEA Southern Regional Convention 2014, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, went in search to find a solution for a key aviation concern.
That concern is: where can you plug in a USB charger in your aircraft? It seems in this modern day of aviation that finding a place to keep your PED charged is almost as important as flying the aircraft. Jim’s quest brought him to Tim Fidler, the Mid-Continent Instruments Eastern Regional sales representative. Mid-Continent Instruments already has a USB charger system designed for aircraft, but they have now innovated an additional use for the panel-mounted clock. Their new system is a digital clock that also includes 2 USB charger ports.

University of Idaho student Maggie Zee is researching how to turn hops by-product into a useable fiber for textile applications.
University of Idaho student explores uses for hops waste, including as a fiber for textile applications.
By Amy Calabretta
Hops are famous for adding bitterness, flavor and aroma to beer. The hop flower, or cone, is used in the brewing process while the remaining plant, or bine, is often mulched into compost. But, what if that hops waste could be used for something else maybe something you’d want to wear? That’s the question University of Idaho College of Agricultural and Life Sciences student Maggie Zee is hoping to answer.
