SAMPLER: Marlborough s unusual law featured by WCVB-TV Mary Wenzel Marlborough’s Silly String law once again made the news when Chronicle, a WCVB-TV news magazine, traveled to the city to conduct research on unusual town and city regulations and ordinances across the state of Massachusetts. Marlborough Mayor Arthur Vigeant addressed the Chronicle cameras in front of the Marlborough City Hall and explained that Silly String became a nuisance during one of the city’s annual Labor Day parades. “It’s my understanding that there were brand new cruisers that were purchased by the city and some kids hit them with Silly String and damaged the new paint,” said Vigeant.

SAMPLER: Fire captain retires after 35 years Mary Wenzel Congratulations go to Captain Stephen “The Colonel” Krysa who, after 35 years of dedicated service to the Marlborough Fire Department, retired. It was a sad day for the MFD as they were losing many, many years of experience. It will be tough to fill his shoes as an officer in the department, but through his journey he has imparted his wisdom to many firefighters. Thank you Captain Krysa, we wish you the absolute best in your retirement. MARLBOROUGH MAYOR ARTHUR VIGEANT stopped by the Early Childhood Center recently to read to the students for Read Across America Day which is in honor of Dr. Seuss Birthday which was March 2. It looked  as though the kids really enjoyed the reading from the Mayor, as did teachers Beth Duplessis and Sara Peek.

SAMPLER: Police department renews accreditation Mary Wenzel The Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission voted to award Accreditation status to the Marlborough Police Department for another three-year period ending in January 2024. The Department first earned Accreditation in 2018 after meeting 257 mandatory standards as well as 85 optional standards. The Accreditation process is time consuming and an intensive analysis of the department’s policies and procedures which seeks to ensure that the department meets the standards considered to be best practices for the profession. The Accreditation process consists of two major components: 1) The establishment of a body of professional standards and policies and 2) a voluntary assessment process by which agencies can be publicly recognized for meeting those standards considered best practices for the profession.
