Mass vaccination site for Marlborough? We re ready, says Mayor Arthur Vigeant

MARLBOROUGH A mass vaccination site with the capacity to administer 750 doses per day could be ready to go by next Monday, Mayor Arthur Vigeant told city councilors Monday night
Staff from UMass Memorial-Marlborough Hospital and city workers worked through last weekend to finalize and send a proposal to Boston for what Vigeant called a “mini-mega site.”
“I think they heard us loud and clear that we’re ready to go,” he said. “We want to get these vaccines out on the street.”
The planned site would be at the Courtyard By Marriott Boston Marlborough hotel on Felton Street, near Interstate 495. Vigeant said UMass Memorial-Marlborough Hospital estimates that about a dozen staff members would be needed to cover an eight-hour shift administering COVID-19 vaccines.
SAMPLER: Marlborough librarian passes away
Mary Wenzel
For years, I have been wishing Mena Hedin a happy birthday on Feb. 19, but this year my heart offers sympathy to her family and friends as Mena passed away on Jan. 14, 2021, at the age of 83.
Mena was a familiar face at the Marlborough Public Library from 1953 to 2012 when she retired after 59 years.
Mena worked in both the Adult Room and Children’s Room, telling tales at the Children’s Story Hour to many generations of families.
“She was always smiling,” reminisced Cathy Miola of Marlborough. “I can’t remember how many Story Hours with Mena that I listened to with my three children.”

The Marlborough Police Department has announced the hiring of four new police officers. Officers John Creed, Lamar Edmonds, Nathan Kuffrey and Samantha Maciel were separately sworn in at the Marlborough Police Department. City Clerk Steven Kerrigan administered the oath of office as family and colleagues looked on. Also, in attendance were Marlborough Mayor Arthur Vigeant and Marlborough Police Chief David Giorgi. The new officers will now begin an extensive 12-week field training program with the patrol division. Congratulations to all and best of luck.

MARLBOROUGH Several key issues will likely go before the City Council in 2021, including zoning to attract more life sciences companies to Marlborough, a proposed 140-unit apartment complex at the former McGee Farm and the annual city spending plan.
City Council President Michael Ossing outlined some of the significant measures expected to come before the council in the new year.
Life sciences
The city already has a strong reputation as a hub for life sciences companies, but Marlborough leaders plan to strengthen that distinction in the coming year.
Ossing anticipates new zoning will come before the council to make Marlborough even more attractive for life sciences companies to move to the city.
