russia or the gru. he said first of all, you know, we re here for a summit. i travelled from moscow. president trump traveled from washington. you re speaking kindly, nicely to each other because we re trying to accomplish something for the world in terms of diplomacy. on the question of whether he has something on donald trump that makes him not stand up to putin, putin said some things that donald trump wouldn t like. in defense of himself, he said look, when donald trump came to russia, he built buildings and held beauty pageant. yes, he was rich. we have a lot of rich people here. we don t surveil all of them and we weren t interested in donald trump. neil: how was his attitude with you? you re aggressive. i cannot imagine knowing his temperament that that was well-received. how did it go? well, look, i ve been add it
what i was going to say, a lot of the reason why his supports voted for him is because he promised different things. he said i m not just going to repeat the same foreign policy blunders of administrations of the past. i m going to, you know, have better negotiations, better deals, better relations with these people. at the same time, he s a tough guy that likes to talk tough. his supporters were expecting that and when he meet with north korean leaders last month, he blew it and should have been tougher. he should have punted neil: i m going to give him the benefit of the doubt on that. marie, where does this relationship go from here, you think? it s hard to say, neil. i want to push back on something here. i don t think this is sloppiness. i think this is a calculated strategy to more align ourself
european union and whether that is our enemy, whether the canadians are really friends, it i don t think it looks good. that s just me. no, i agree when given the opportunity, you should have sided with the intelligence community over what vladimir putin said. i think that his response was sloppy. he bungled it up. in a way to redeem himself his voters voted for him because he said he would not bungle relations with north korea. he wouldn t bungle relations with russia the way neil: but aren t a lot of his core supporters, and he has many, but aren t they also suspicious of vladimir putin? say what you will that s what i was going to say. they were worried about this guy. they worry about nato and individual commitments to funding it, he s done things that have increased the size of the bill, right?
appetite for cheap goods. so it s not that russian leaders weren t cunning. our leaders weren t cunning. not that china s leader weren t shrewd, our leaders weren t shrewd. we let canada become a let to our national security. canada? so don t blame any of their leaders. blame our leaders. just not this leader. because to hear this president tell it, it s not his fault the west is this way. he s the guy cleaning up the mess. but is it really a mess? because you would almost think since he took office in the middle of a worldwide depression, but he didn t. or that he never came into a nearly eight year long bull market but he did or hemorrhaging hundreds of thousands of jobs a month like his predecessor was when he came into office but we weren t. just like you would think we were on the brink of a nuclear war but we aren t. mr. president, none of that is real. all of that is fake.
syria and ukraine are troubling as well. i m happy to talk about those. what he did, neil, on the election meddling question, blaming the u.s., blaming democrats, blaming the previous administration and accepting putin s word? i m just stunned. you know, a lot of us criticize donald trump a lot. this was a deliberate strategy to basically say, 2016 meddling, not a big deal. maybe it wasn t putin. that is so fundamentally concerning neil: i don t know what he said privately. it s a he said he said thing and putin is telling he had nothing to do with it, blah, blah, blah. i ll give the benefit of the doubt there. what i am worried about is, if he continues with follow up talks and dealing with vladimir putin at a time that he s had harsh things to say about the
