right, but see alex, okay, so what is the premise of this issue? if we ask, what is the reason? you know, for example, is it because there s not enough african-americans playing in the nfl? is there not enough african-american coaches? at the end of the day, and i m not trying to dance around, because i have a rich history of civil rights in my father and uncle who marched with dr. king back in atlanta. so i get it. but what i m trying to figure out is, like, where is the base. where is this going to go? where can it lead? respectfully, it has to be on, you know, it s not fair to subject an employer when you come in, you know i m going to say the national anthem. we re going to work out in the training camp, play x amount of games, do this. so you re like, okay, i ll sign up. but for god s sake, if you don t want to do that, then start your own business, your own league. that s just being fair, alex, respectfully. bruce, when pretty much everyone the president has targeted here is
where we like and where we dislike. this isn t about that. you re talking about what you sign up for. they re not signing up to stand for the national anthem. so what is the period. what is the protest about. where are we at? you re supposed to know that. you re on the show. you re supposed to know what the protest is about. i can t hear. the protest is about you re talking about fair play. it s not fair play if you re a young black man and getting blown away in the street. the racist police aren t out there doing 501 cs. this is what it s about. for you to get on national television and spout this garbage is completely ridiculous, man. it s without merit. it s without merit. i say, listen, i m not saying we re perfect, but this is beyond perfect. this is about young people excuse me. losing their lives. that s what this is about. we have come a long way. have you had anybody in your family get beaten by the police?
but, you know, this is unfortunate because it s the national ant anthem and they neo respect the military. look, at every professional sports game, you do see a tribute paid to service members. this is not about disrespecting the country or disrespecting members of the military. and in fact, earlier in this hour, morgan radford interviewed a man who said just this. this is not about that at all. this is about people who don t have a voice and the nfl standing up for those people. i think that is a really important distinction and it is not intellectually honest for people like mark short to just say, oh, wait a minute, they shouldn t be disrespecting the country or the national anthem. in fact, they re being very patriotic. they clearly care about the country and they re taking this moment when everybody is paying attention to them for the national anthem saying we would rather we are proud of the country and we want this to be better. this is patriotic, what they re doing. not unpat
they ll be kneeling during the national anthem. we have the pittsburgh steelers who just a few minutes ago, remember, many nfl games kick off at 1:00 p.m. eastern time. the pittsburgh steelers today fulfilled what their coach mike tomlin said they would do, and they stayed inside the locker room during the national anthem. meanwhile, such a person as the secretary of the treasury, steve mnuchin, is weighing in on this. he s calling for the nfl to pass rules to forbid them. he says this is a workplace. the owners are the bosses. they should be able to set the rules after president trump is calling for a boycott by fans of nfl games until players stop kneeling. the #takeaknee movement sweeping the nfl tood. there will be a lot of people making their way in. i m sure you ll get a lot of opinions shortly. we do have breaking news to report for all of you again, reiterating what we told you, in tennessee, specifically nashville, a deadly shooting at
from london, we had wembley stadium earlier today where we had evidence on both sides of the field there of players taking a stand against president trump and his condemnation of those athletes who have chosen to kneel in protest of his comments. of course, one of the president s early supporters strongly condemning his comments about the nfl players taking a knee during the national anthem. rex ryan, former coach for the buffalo bills. here he is this morning. i m pissed off, i ll be honest with you, because i supported donald trump. i sat back when he asked me to introduce him at a rally in buffalo, i did that. but i m reading these comments, and it s appalling to me. right away, i m associated with what donald trump stands for and all that because, you know, i introduced him. i never signed up for that. i never wanted that s. and again, his comments coming on the heels of white a powerful scene from london this
