Gabrielle Union s Note to Parents Everywhere: Needing Help Does Not Make You Weak

Image zoom Credit: Getty Images Scrolling through actress Gabrielle Union’s Instagram feed, fans can see how the mom is spending pandemic life with her family, especially with her 2-year-old Kaavia James Union Wade. Whether it’s playing with toys, sledding in the snow, or taking fun photos with husband and dad Dwyane Wade, the Los Angeles-based family appears to be making the best of their time at home. But Union admits pandemic parenting has been no walk in the park. Like all parents, the couple has had to find ways to adapt while also dealing with a shift to virtual learning, which also hasn’t been easy on her stepkids Zaire, 18, Zaya, 13, and Xavier, 7.

New Study Sparks Backlash in the Autism Community, With Twitter Users Calling It Despicable for Its Treatment of Children

New research on autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has been at the center of controversy for what researchers say is a misinterpretation of their study but some members of the autism community say has taken it too far. The peer-reviewed study, published in the Official Journal of the International Society for Autism Research in early December, aimed to look at the development of emotional difficulties, including anxiety and depression, in toddlers with autism. “These can have a marked impact on the quality of life in people with autism,” researchers wrote in a statement responding to the controversy. “In the general population, decades of research have shown that atypical emotional development in early childhood is predictive of later emotional distress. However, there is very little research examining the emotional development of young children with autism.”

Hilaria Baldwin Says 3 is the Trickiest Age to Parent: They Have Such Complicated Emotions

Giving birth during the pandemic was scary, says Hilaria Baldwin, but she also considers herself lucky because of her baby s due date. She welcomed her fifth child with husband and actor Alec Baldwin in early September in New York when COVID-19 cases in the city were significantly lower than they had been in the spring. Of course, the fifth delivery was much different than her previous four. The fitness and wellness expert had an uncomfortable COVID test while in labor and gave birth while wearing a mask. “You see all the funny memes that moms put out there about when people complain about wearing a mask to like the grocery store and I’m like, ‘I had to deliver a baby with a mask on,’” she says. “So, you can buy your Cheetos with a mask on you’ll survive.”

Image zoom Credit: Getty Images Any other year, the holidays would be a time to get together with relatives who live near and far. But of course the pandemic has changed the way we celebrate, especially as coronavirus cases continue to rise across the United States. So, does that mean we should cancel our Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or New Year’s celebrations altogether? Not exactly but some adjustments are highly recommended. Like it did for Thanksgiving, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released guidelines on how to safely be festive for the 2020 holidays. What is Safest? Only celebrating with people who you live with you and have been practicing COVID-19 safety measures is the best way to celebrate any holiday this year. In-person gatherings with people from different households, including college students who are heading back home, is considered a threat.
