NCP leader Anil Deshmukh claimed that the order to lathi-charge protesters came from state home ministry, headed by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis. Deshmukh s claim echoed Sharad Pawar s statement that lathi charge happened after call from ‘higher-ups’.
A vacation bench of Bombay High Court on Tuesday refused to extend the stay on the order granting bail to former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh in a corruption case.
Deshmukh is embroiled in two investigations arising from same allegation - one by the CBI for offence of corruption and the other by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for the offence of money laundering.
The Bombay High Court formed a prima facie opinion that the bail petition of former minister Anil Deshmukh in the corruption case against him can be heard on a priority basis in view of the medical condition of Deshmukh.
This move by the agency comes after they had claimed before the Bombay High Court last year that sanction under Section 17A of PCA was deemed unnecessary since the enquiry initiated was post court directions.
