The NCP leader and former home minister has been in jail since November 2021 after the Enforcement Directorate arrested him in an alleged money laundering case.
The Bombay High Court on Wednesday extended the stay on the effect of an order granting bail to former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh in a corruption case till Tuesday.
The High Court observed that Sachin Waze was under suspension for 16 years and his tenure as police officer was controversial. The court has also considered his age, 73 years, and ailments, some of which are classified as “de-generative”.
On CBI’s request, the High Court said the bail will be effective after 10 days; the probe agency wanted to appeal against bail granted in Supreme Court.
The Enforcement Directorate, which is probing the financial aspect of the case, had alleged that while serving as the state home minister, Anil Deshmukh collected Rs 4.70 crore from various bars and restaurants in Mumbai through a police officer.
