Sussex County towns protest election cost increases

The county is responsible to pay for the general election in its entirety, with the local governments paying for primaries, Parrott wrote. The deputy county clerk s original letter explained that state mandates stemming from the 2018 and 2019 election changes in the state, raised costs because they require counties to send mail-in ballots to all registered voters. Those mailed ballots include special envelopes to return the ballots by mail, or to bring it to a drop-off box. In addition to the cost of producing the ballots, there is an extra postage charge for those sent back via mail. It wasn t until the federal election of 2020, a presidential election and its increase in the number of voters, that the added expense was apparent. The pandemic cut down on people who voted in person and increased the number of ballots mailed back.

Weldon Road Bridge lanes reopening Wednesday morning

Weldon Road Bridge lanes reopening Wednesday morning New Jersey Herald JEFFERSON  Single lanes of traffic in each direction will open on the northern half of the Weldon Road bridge over Route 15 Wednesday at 7 a.m. The Department of Transportation reported new ramps to the bridge have been completed. The bridge was closed on Dec. 20, 2020 when a crack was discovered in a beam on the southern side of the bridge. Subsequent inspection discovered a large crack in a second beam as well. The bridge was originally designed with four lanes of traffic, two in each direction, with on-off ramps to Route 15 which goes under the bridge.

North Warren high school community upset with firing of vice principal

If the governor s plan is approved, North Warren s state aid would drop from $3.69 million this year to $2.74 million in 2021-22  a decrease of more than 25% that would mark the second steepest among Warren County schools. Statewide, only seven districts would have a percentage decrease higher than North Warren. According to Bilotti, the district will lose $4 million in total state aid from the Senate bill and has already lost 38 staff members because of the budget cuts. The Board has taken a deliberate and careful approach to these reductions over the last several years, always considering the impact on student instruction, to protect the educational experience of every student as much as possible, reads Bilotti s email to the New Jersey Herald.  The reductions approved (Monday) night were not the first, and sadly, will not be the last caused by the state funding changes.
