it s thursday, january 26th. san francisco sheriff ross mirkarimi has a new lawyer, as he gets ready for his next court appearance. ktvu s tara moriarity joins us live in san francisco with the new developments in this domestic violence scandal. good morning, tara. reporter: good morning. we spoke to deputies here at the hall of justice and they are really bracing for a media circus come february 24th, when the trial is expected to begin. the story has been covered internationally because of the fact that the alleged victim here is a former soap opera star from venezuela, and the fact that the sheriff was indeed booked in his own jail. now just yesterday, mirkarimi parted ways with his attorney, robert waggener. we don t know why but his lawyer is now lydia stiglich of berkeley. she will be here for today s hearing where ross is supposed to ask the judge to lift or modify a stay-away order which bans him from contact with his wife or son. mirkarimi faces three misdemeanor c
wife and son. they all want to be together as a family because she is denying the accusations. today s court hearing could lift that protective order. mirkarimi has only been in office since january 8 and is charged with three misdemeanor counts after an incident on new year s eve when he is accused of bruising his wife s arm in front of their 2-year-old son. he had to turn in his guns but despite public and political pressure, he is planning to stay on as sheriff although he says he wouldn t collect any pay during his trial which is set to start february 24. now, the list of witnesses came out yesterday including mirkarimi s wife eliana lopez but again she is so far denying the charges against him. mirkarimi s ex-girlfriend is also expected on the stand, christina flores. she has a similar accusation of abuse. then there is i very madison the neighbor who brought this case to police after she says mirkarimi s wife came to her house asking her to photograph that alleged bruis
