The members of the union representing University of Michigan graduate student instructors will continue their strike into the summer. The Graduate Employees Organization, or GEO, had their contract expire on Wednesday. WEMU’s Josh Hakala reports.
A Michigan judge ruled that the graduate instructors on strike violated a no-strike clause in their bargaining agreement. The union said some instructors not on strike have also been affected.
Some professors say asking them to grade students they haven’t taught is a violation of their academic freedom. University officials say they’re trying to minimize harm to undergraduates.
