President Russell M. Nelson has addressed reporters several times since he was ordained the prophet and president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Here are a few of the most memorable moments:
Jan. 16, 2018: President Nelson spoke at a press conference directly following a broadcast introducing him and his counselors as the new First Presidency of the church.
What he said: “I declare my devotion to God our Eternal Father, and to his Son, Jesus Christ. I know them, love them and pledge to serve them and you with every remaining breath of my life.”

MAQUOKETA â On Sunday, First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa will celebrate retiring pastor Judy Heinrich. Heinrich will retire as Word and Sacrament Minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America Dec. 31, the church said.
Bishop Amy Current of the ELCA Southeastern Iowa Synod will preach during the 9 a.m. worship service on KMAQ radio and Facebook Live Sunday and will lead the Sending rite at the end of the service.
The public is invited to participate in the worship service and the 10 a.m. program on KMAQ and Facebook Live on the congregationâs Facebook group page, as well as the retirement and appreciation car parade,beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the church parking lot.

Jenny Desmond’s habit of bouncing around Colorado wasn’t always elegant, or even strategic. But in hindsight, it was a sort of preparation for her world travels a sign that wherever she stopped, it wouldn’t be where she’d end up.
“I went to Colorado State University for my undergrad degree, but got kicked out because I partied too much,” Desmond said over a Zoom call from Liberia this week. “That was really great fun, actually.”
