democrat, independent, the best way to show the president that his glibness and his indifference, if not back of the hand attack still on the crest, and i call on fox news to stop its fake news attacks on democrats. i haven t heard him say that. let s face it, it s going to take voters to go to the polls and vote and put a democratic majority in the house if not in the senate in order to tell the president the american people are sick and tired of this type of rhetoric that is inflaming and putting the best lives of our country in danger. well put and something to think about. ambassador ginsberg, thank you for joining us. neera, stick around i want to ask you about another development in the show. and congress member hakeem jeffries joins us from new york. thank you for being here at a difficult time. thanks for having me. your view of how the president is conducting himself, and what is the nature of the
his position domestically. i think that s a powerful message that will not be lost on our world leaders. you were just talking about some of them. look at the world leaders that came together to express concern or outright condemness. you had, of course, the palestinians. but also you had saudi arabia, turkey, iran, those countries don t often see eye to eye on a number of issues. you saw russia, nato, china, germany, france, all expressing concern. the vatican. i think the u.s. was not only on an island on this policy, it was on an island surrounded by quite a deep mote. we ll see what happens next. will there be a trust of this administration or concern that president trump will do whatever he wants to do domestically, even when advised by close friends and allies to proceed more cautiously. ambassador ginsberg, we ve seen some protests since the initial reporting over this.
precisely how long it s going to take to physically move the embassy? the white house briefed last night and told us three to four years. that is very, very optimistic to say the least about the process of designing, building a secure facility in that very close area of jerusalem. where would they build it? how would it be secured? how do they decide that they are not interfering with artifacts, with archeological artifacts that have to be first cataloged and dug out very, very carefully? i think that is optimistic. i don t think you ll see an embassy constructed within the first term of this president, should he, you know, be re-elected to a second term, perhaps during that period. but that said, this is highly important, highly significant because as ambassador ginsberg was just saying, it completely undermines one of america s closest allies, the king of jordan, king abdullah, who was
you ve taught us something today. certainly. in the second round of litigation, something else we want to make sure is on your radar, a travel ban. a ruling may come as soon as tomorrow from the ninth circuit of appeals. they heard neil koch suggesting that the ban is dog whistle for anti-muslim trump supporters. when he issued the first executive order he read the title of the executive order, looked up at the camera and said, we all know what that means. indeed, when he issued both executive orders he left on his website that very statement about the complete and total shut-down of muslims, a statement that just happened to disappear moments before the fourth circuit argument last week. joining me now is ambassador marc ginsberg, former u.s. ambassador to morocco and middle east policy adviser. i wanted to have you on to discuss the travel ban. at this juncture, your view not only of its status in court, which is probably going all the
delivered the very address that president trump delivered. i watched it. and he made very valid points. but the problem, of course, with the travel ban, is that it doesn t solve the ultimate problem that all of us understand, which is, if you are going to get rid of islamic extremism and fight the battle against isis, a travel ban that doesn t even or didn t apply to the visa waiver program, where dual nationals were able to admit to the united states i remember saying that you could drive a truck through this travel ban because dual nationals from, for example, britain and pakistan who carry a british passport could have made it into the united states. which is why it looked initially sloppy, which hurt them in court. whether the later foreign policy will help them is one of the fascinating parts of this if you want to give the benefit of the doubt. ambassador ginsberg. appreciate your expertise. we open up ari s inbox and answer your questions.
