AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The AEDC board has finalized an agreement to bring the equivalent of 500 full-time jobs and more than $13 million in annual payroll to Amarillo.
Amarillo Economic Development Corporation President and CEO Kevin Carter said they approved and incentive of $2.5 million for Amazon.com services to build a warehouse and distribution center in Amarillo.
That’s in return for the company maintaining those jobs and payroll for five years.
City to mull establishing Reinvestment Zone 12
During Tuesday s virtual regular session, the Amarillo City Council is expected to conduct a public hearing and first reading of an ordinance in consideration of designating certain areas of the city as Reinvestment Zone 12 for commercial and industrial tax abatement.
Per the meeting agenda, Amarillo Economic Development Corporation President and CEO Kevin Carter is slated to make the presentation before the city council. The Agenda Caption indicates the proposed Reinvestment Zone 12 is approximately 110.39 acres in the vicinity of NE 24th Street and Loop 335.
In November 2020, the city council adopted an ordinance designating just under five acres of land in the vicinity of Amarillo Boulevard and Point West Parkway as Reinvestment Zone 11 - created for commercial and industrial tax abatement to provide the city council the option to offer an economic development incentive.

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Amazon Services LLC filed an application for a tax abatement from the City of Amarillo for an Amazon facility estimated to cost about $100 million.
According to the city’s posting about the tax abatement consideration, Kevin Carter, president and CEO of Amarillo Economic Development Corporation says, “Included in the facility will be $70 million in improvements that will include a warehouse and $30 million worth of equipment to go into that warehouse. That consists of about 110 acres.”
