Amazon confirms placement of fulfillment center in Amarillo Officials with Amazon announced plans Thursday to open a new fulfillment center in Amarillo, creating more than 500 new full-time jobs for the area and having an approximate $35 million economic impact on the city when it is expected to open in early 2022. This comes after the Potter County Commissioners’ Court and the Amarillo City Council approved a tax abatement agreement from the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation among the county, city, Happy Horizons Properties, LP, ET Amarillo LLC and Amazon.com Services LLC.  According to previous Globe-News reports, the fulfillment center will be a new, 1 million-square-foot facility located on 110.39 acres at NE 24th Street and Loop 335. There will be $100 million in capital investment for the facility, with $70 million going toward the building itself and $30 million in equipment.

During Monday s regular session, the Potter County Commissioners Court approved a tax abatement agreement that aids a process that could yield an Amazon non-sortable fulfillment center here. Officials indicated the Court s action means Potter County joins in the preceding tax abatement agreement between the City of Amarillo, Happy Horizons Properties, LP, ET Amarillo LLC, and Amazon.com Services LLC.  Project highlights previously noted by the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation include:  - Construction of a new, 1 million-square-foot facility on 110.39 acres located at NE 24th Street and Loop 335 - Capital Investment totaling $100 million ($70 million in facility improvements and $30 million in equipment) - New employees totaling at least 500

According to the city’s posting about the tax abatement consideration, Kevin Carter, president and CEO of Amarillo Economic Development Corporation says, “Included in the facility will be $70 million in improvements that will include a warehouse and $30 million worth of equipment to go into that warehouse. That consists of about 110 acres.”
