Last spring, when Laurel Goldsmith began hearing stories on national media outlets that healthcare workers in some parts of the country were short on personal protective equipment, she began to wonder, “What can we as a community do to help our local healthcare system?”
She reached out through the volunteer link on Beebe Healthcare’s website and sent an email about volunteering to help with mask making. Kim Blanch, RN, from Beebe Population Health replied to Goldsmith’s inquiry, letting her know that a mask similar to an N-95 mask was being designed by Pam Smith, RN, of Lewes. The 3-layer mask had a pocket designed to hold filter

This is a letter of thanks to all Beebe team members – each and every one of you – for all that you do every day to provide safe, excellent care for me, my family and friends, and our greater community.
I tuned in to watch Beebe’s Town Hall live on Facebook Jan. 8. And, just as Beebe has done since the beginning of the pandemic, the town hall updated the community on the COVID-19 virus, and now its vaccine. By the end of the event, I felt educated, calm, and most of all, proud.

Kathy and Bob Harmon were enjoying a visit with their good friends Mike and Mary Ann Dunevant to celebrate Kathy’s birthday. Mary Ann prepared a special dinner, baked a cake, and invited her brother and sister-in-law, Bud and Ann Rizer, to join their small party.
“Just before we were getting ready to eat, Ann and I were talking about my new great-granddaughter,” shared Kathy. “I wanted to show Ann a picture, but when I picked up my phone, I didn’t recognize it. I didn’t know what to do with it. I didn’t know what buttons to push. Then my words started slurring and popping, and my sentences weren’t coming out. I was having a lot of difficulty with my speech.”

Although 2020 has been a most unusual year, the holiday season itself causes each of us to pause and reflect. My holiday season reflection this year also includes visions of the future.
In March of this year, the global COVID-19 pandemic forced me to modify my initial 100-day plan at Beebe Healthcare. I initially thought that I was going to focus on how we innovate processes like scheduling appointments, billing, and improving efficiencies in places like the operating room or the emergency department. With the COVID-19 pandemic, we researched and executed innovative processes that prevented shortages of personal protective equipment for our caregivers, thereby preserving our capacity to care for patients. We also launched innovative tactics like video town halls to share with our community as mu

My overall experience with Beebe was great! From the folks who greeted us at the door on our way in, to those who said goodbye on our way out, everyone was so kind.
When I first arrived at the labor and delivery unit, I was having some pretty painful contractions. Dr. Russell White came in to see me and was very calming. He even slid in a few jokes, which took my mind off the pain for a few seconds. He was honest about everything, and respectful of the decisions my husband and I made for both my and our son’s care. I knew I was in good hands!
