Coldwater girls softball get two shutouts in doubleheader sweep of Climax-Scotts By Jim Measel May 7, 2021 5:03 AM CLIMAX, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater girls softball team posted a pair of one-hit shutouts as they took both ends of a non-conference doubleheader from Climax-Scotts on Thursday by scores of 16-0 and 11-0. Mia Rzepka was the winning pitcher in the opening game as she struck out six and allowed only one hit in the five inning game. She was backed by a 15-hit attack and a tight defense which only committed one error. Rzepka had three hits including two triples. Alyssa Bach, Jayla Foster, Alexis Bills and Riley Rice all had two hits. Rice and Morgan Dancer both had doubles.

By Jim Measel May 1, 2021 5:53 AM OLIVET, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater girls softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Olivet on Friday as they were beaten by scores of 11-3 and 7-6. Olivet used the long ball to their advantage in the first game as they belted six home runs. Alyssa Bach and Brooklyn Kerry had two hits for Coldwater while Jayla Foster doubled in the first game. Coldwater outhit Olivet in the second game 10-7 but the Eagles completed the doubleheader sweep with a walk off homer in the last of the seventh. Foster had a double and triple in the second game. Mia Rzepka had a double and two RBI’s. Alexis Bills also drove in two runs. Morgan Dancer and Kerry both had two hits.

5 for Good: Students refurbish bikes for Habitat for Humanity

For months, students at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School have been spending time every week refurbishing bikes.At first, 11th grader Shannen Hardy said most of them had no idea what to do. I did not know a lick of it, she said. Taking them apart and rebuilding them definitely helped me learn, said Alyssa Bach, another 11th grader taking part in the effort.The bike project got underway as part of the Skills USA program at the high school.Students in the program learn more than the standard curriculum including personal, workplace and technical skills.Peggy Riley-O’Brian is the program coordinator and a teacher at the high school.“They become well-rounded in their trade, but also in other things,” Riley-O’Brian said. “One of the tenets of the organization is that we do community service. By Jim Measel Apr 28, 2021 | 5:18 AM SCHOOLCRAFT, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater girl’s softball team saw their six game winning streak came to a halt on Tuesday as they were swept by Schoolcraft in a non-conference doubleheader by scores of 2-1 and 17-2 as their record dropped to 7-5. The only Cardinal run in the opener came on a sacrifice bunt by Rylie Rice. Coldwater committed eight errors and gave up seven unearned runs in the first inning of the second game. Alyssa Bach collected the only Coldwater hit in the nightcap. The Coldwater J.V. squad was swept by Pennfield by scores of 20-6 and 13-2. Peyton McBride had an inside-the-park home run in the first game.

Karlie Knisley paced a 12 hit attack in the opener with three hits while Mia Rzepka tripled. Alexis Bills was the winning pitcher as she struck out four in two innings of work. Coldwater collected 14 hits in the second game. Alyssa Bach drove in four runs. She along with Rylie Rice and Jayla Foster doubled while Brooklyn Kerry had a triple. Rzepka was the winning pitcher in the second game as she struck out four in her four innings of work. The Cardinals improved to 4-0 in the I-8 and 7-3 overall.
