Nepal political crisis : Parliament dissolved, fresh elections in March, May 2021. Kathmandu, Dec 20 (UNI) In fast changing political developments in Nepal, the Himalayan country s Parliament was dissolved on Sunday by President Bidya Devi Bhandari following a recommendation by Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli earlier in the morning. “Nepal President ratifies the proposal of Parliament dissolution presented by Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli,” the President’s Office said. The President also announced fresh elections to be held in two rounds on April 30 and May 10 next year. The 275-member House of Representatives, which is the lower house of Parliament, was elected in 2017.

On Tuesday, President, Bidya Devi Bhandari signed an executive order to reduce the quorum for meetings of the prime minister headed constitutional council that is empowered to appoint officials of constitutional bodies such as the Investigation of Abuse Authority. (Photo: PM Secretariat) PM Oli introduces Constitutional Council ordinance after failing to meet quorum for convening meeting ANI | Updated: Dec 15, 2020 21:42 IST Kathmandu [Nepal], December 15 (ANI): NepalPrime Minister KP Sharma Oli has introduced an ordinance to amend the Constitutional Council Act ( Functions, Duties, and Procedures ) 2010, according to which a meeting of the council can be convened even if it falls short of the quorum required to convene the meeting. The ordinance which has been approved by President Bidya Devi Bhandari within an hour after it being sent by PM Oli, gives him the right to convene meetings and make decisions even in presence of only three members.
