Flanked by members of Bryant s family, organizer Hana Abdur-Rahim struck a somber tone before those gathered on a sunny April Sunday afternoon. Today we are here to continue to lift up the life of Ma Khia Bryant, she told the crowd. I don t need a video to know she was a child and she deserved to live.
She then introduced a woman named Myra Duke who said she was Bryant s aunt. Speaking to the crowd, Duke thanked them for their dedication to her niece and expressed how sorely the girl s family misses her. It doesn t seem real, said Duke, who later declined to talk to the Dispatch but said she lives out of town. Ma Khia was an angel. This situation didn t have to happen like this; the system failed her.

After Derek Chauvin was found guilty on all three counts related to the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, OZY co-founder Carlos Watson asked you readers what needs to happen next. Here are some of the best responses he received.

The police need better training! This policeman should have called the paramedics for a medical evaluation of George Floyd before trying to subdue him by force! This training is definitely important for the police forces! Reform the police and train them better!
Tue, 20 Apr 2021 00:00 UTC After Derek Chauvin was found guilty on all three counts, the crowds outside the courthouse breathed a sigh of relief and began to celebrate. Wait! Not so fast! said BLM co-founder Patrisse Cullors to the crowds. We have more work to do! We haven t really achieved justice! We must not stop until I can afford to buy a 5th house! Er I mean, until we dismantle all the systems or whatever! Chant with me now! No justice, no peace! No justice, no peace!
The crowd was initially confused as they thought justice had already been served, but they forgot about all that when they joined along with Cullors and remembered how fun it was to chant.
