we ll show you more of the chase and give you the latest developments on it tonight on news4 at 5:00. pat? all right. thanks, tisha. it was a terrible morning for hundreds of drivers. a truck accident brought the interloop of the beltway to a screeching halt for hours. the whole ordeal started around 4:30 this morning. traffic didn t start moving there again until almost 8:00. news4 s megan mcgrath has details. reporter: oh, the frustration. hundreds of cars and trucks stuck on the interloop for more than three hours this morning. casey maddox missed his early-morning flight. i was supposed to be on a flight at 6:55. total standstill. occasionally you ll see cars move a little bit, but i think that s i m not even sure anyone is moving at all. reporter: a tractor-trailer accident was the cause of this morning s disastrous commute. work crews not only had to clear the trucks, they also had a fuel spill on their hands. all lanes of the interloop were closed at 3:55.
20 202012. good morning. thanks for joining us. i m vinita nair. president obama and mitt romney return to the campaign trail today after appearing last night at catholic fundraiser here in new york. instead of contentious debate the dinner offered for more light hearted salvos. president obama s comments about libya on a comedy show made headlines. reporter: it was not all laughs last night but the candidates made that traditional stop along the campaign trail, a chance to score political points with humor for a good cause but today it s back to business. for one night only president obama and mitt romney took a break from the bitter campaign. sort of. in the spirit of sesame street the president s remarks are brought to by the letter o and the number 16 trillion. reporter: it was a white tie dinner for catholic charity. it s nice to relax and wear what ann and i wear around-the-house. reporter: president obama was quick on the draw himself. everyone take your

meteorologist tom kierein. saw quite a bit of rain last night cross the area. i ran into fog coming in along with the sprinkles. and lightning too. and some hail. we had all kinds of things going on. actually, high water too in a few locations in montgomery county. watch out for that. that s where a lot of the heaviest rain fell. right now storm team 4 radar showing most of the rain gone. we still have the possibility of a few scattered light showers. rye now you see patches of green. those are some sprinkles now after the heavier downpours have come through the next couple of hours. just lingering sprinkles in fairfax county, loudoun, western, and northern prince william county. parts of northern fauquier and into the shenandoah valley. northern shenandoah valley had some hail last night. still a few lingering showers panhandle of west virginia and western maryland. there s one here shady side up toward annapolis. that s heading across the bay north and east now. tempe
