REGIONAL The number of new cases of COVID-19 around southwest Minnesota rose Saturday, as Cottonwood County reported nine new cases of COVID-19, according to Saturday morning s update from the Minnesota Department of Health. Pipestone County added five new cases, while Nobles County had four and Rock County one. Jackson and Murray counties each had no new cases reported.
Statewide, there were 882 new cases recorded during the 24-hour period, according to Saturday morning’s update. REGIONAL Jackson County recorded its 12th death due to complications of COVID-19 in the latest update from the Minnesota Department of Health, released this morning. The individual was between the ages of 70 and 74. No other information is available.
The death was one of 15 reported statewide during the one-day reporting period that ended at 4 p.m. Tuesday. Of the deaths, 14 resided in private residences, while one was a resident of a long-term care or assisted living facility. Minnesota’s death toll from the virus now stands at 7,255, including 4,378 residents of long-term care facilities.

REGIONAL Rock and Pipestone counties each recorded two new cases of COVID-19 during the 24-hour reporting period that ended at 4 p.m. Monday, while Nobles County reported one new case. No new cases were reported in Cottonwood, Jackson or Murray counties.
The new cases were among 583 reported statewide during the one-day period. The cumulative total of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases in Minnesota now stands at 589,527 (positive and antigen tests), with 571,752 beyond the 10-day isolation period. Thus far, 41,952 Minnesota healthcare workers have contracted the virus.
