I am proud andolan jeevi , says Chidambaram
Responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi s jibe made during the Budget Session, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Wednesday called himself a proud andolan jeevi (one who thrives on protests) and the quintessential andolan jeevi , according to him, was Mahatma Gandhi. I am a proud andolan jeevi. The quintessential andolan jeevi was Mahatma Gandhi, Chidambaram tweeted.
This comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Monday said a new community has come up in the country andolan jivi who can be spotted in every protest and are parasite for the nation.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s response to the motion of thanks on the President’s address in the Lok Sabha Wednesday was overtaken midway by angry Opposition protests as he referred to the farm laws. The Congress, after a huge altercation, walked out shortly after he said the slogan-shouting “was a planned strategy to drown out reason and hide the truth”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday while delivering his speech in Lok Sabha on Motion of Thanks on the President s address spoke extensively about the new farm reforms and emphasized its need in the present times even when farmers are continuing their protest against the new reforms, demanding they should be repealed. PM Modi also hit out at the Congress party that is opposing the new laws saying it is such a confused party that its Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha members, both think different. Such a confused party can neither benefit itself nor the country. Speaking on the new laws, the Prime Minister said we can t remain satisfied anymore by just maintaining the status quo, advocating that change is necessary for development, path forward.

Dubbing BJP leaders chanda jeevis , Akhilesh Yadav reminded the Centre: “That ‘andolans’ or protests have given India several rights and several leaders. In fact, India gained independence due to protests.”

Attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his “andolan jeevi” remark on protesting farmers, Samajwadi Party MP and former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav called the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders “chanda jeevis”, meaning those who live on donations.
Addressing Parliament on February 9, Akhilesh Yadav said: “That ‘andolans’ or protests have given India several rights and several leaders. In fact, India gained independence due to protests.”
