A 97-year-old Mumbai-based Gandhian has urged those invested in protecting India’s hard-earned freedoms, including the freedom of expression, to shed the fear of going to jail. Almost everything that we value in our democracy was earned by people who not only did not fear going to jail, but, in fact, saw it as a rite of passage, he said.
India using like-minded members of EU Parliament for its propaganda campaign

Islamabad, Pakistan: “Indian propaganda is exposed and European Union member states understand that India is trying to use like-minded members of EU Parliament for its propaganda and nefarious designs to subjugate Kashmiris in Indian Occupied Kashmir and its Non- Brahmin population in several states”.
These were observations of leading analysts including Lt Gen (Retd) Ghulam Mustafa, former Diplomat Ambassador Najm us Saqib, Foreign Affairs analyst and expert Prof Shazia Cheema, Syed Ali Raza Chairman Kashmir Council European Union.

Last week, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was responding to the debate on the President’s address in Rajya Sabha, he slipped in his views on people, who he thought, had made protest their vocation. He called them andolanjeevi . If he meant it as an aside to punctuate and lighten his speech, he would have stopped with just the labelling, and moved on with the more serious agenda of his Parliamentary engagement. But he did not stop there. He went ahead and described them as parasitic in nature. That is, they neither start or end a protest, nor are they affected directly by its outcomes, but they do try to appropriate it. This is a distorted picture of what happens in a democratic setting, but such distortions have become routine.
