so who should lead this investigation? terms of that s the big question. ukrainians are already saying they re doing it. should it be somebody else? but who else would it be? should it be the europeans, a combination of the bea of france, the aaib? that s going to be the big issue. matthew, let s talk a little bit more about that. the fact that the plane came down in territory controlled by russian separatists. right. suggest that they will have control of the flight s black box. who should they give it to and who will they give it to, as a matter of fact? the interesting question is what language was the crew speaking to each other. if they were speaking in malay, they re going to need someone to translate that the cockpit voice recorder they can probably decode. the flight data recorder tends to differ from airplane to airplane. i don t think the ukrainians are equipped or even the russians possibly to decode the flight data recorder from a 777. bow cog do it in a snap.
you know a lot about this. ben gurion just the other day, the pilot was telling us about the special security procedures all commercial xsh aircraft take coming into israel. stand by for that. richard quest is getting more information. what are you picking up? well, there was nos distress call. the aircraft involved will have had the a cars automatic reporting system. i understand tonight in enmar sat has now provided the data that it would have received from the aircraft at the time of whatever happened whether it was a missile or whatever. they have now provided that data to the british investigating authority, the aaib. that will be pored over and give an indication of what happened immediately on that aircraft. also, wolf, euro control which looks after european air space have tonight closed all eastern ukraine air space in the area
aaib, and they will not confirm that. they gave this data to other organizations who then went away, made their own models, ran those models not just against mh-370 but against dozens of other planes that were in the air at the same time and against planes on previous flights, and they always got roughly the same results. so, what inmarsat is quite clearly and bluntly saying is, it s worked in all these cases. why on earth, nobody has shown why it s not working on this particular case. they have an extremely high level of confidence that they re right, that the plane flew south and that the flight ended in the southern indian ocean. all right, richard quest for us this morning in los angeles, where it is very early. richard, thank you so much for waking up with us. coming up in a few minutes, we re going to go live to beijing, where david mckenzie is following the family reaction to this data being made public now, so stay with us for that. want to go now to nigeria, where this m
to explain how you came to the conclusion of where this plane is they would have given a different set of information, not data, but a different set of information to them to help clarify their position that near not doing here and the question is why. right. but what they did do is once they have come up with their model on the frequency and the speed and all these things, other organizations took this same data and this data is trath from the plane. this is not processed in that sense. and they worked with their own models. now, where i think everybody where they re falling down is not saying which other organizations verified the data because i think if we knew, for example, was it boeing, rolls royce, the ntsb, the aaib. if those organizations put their head together and said, yes, we did take the inmarsat data and we have verified it to be true. what we re left with is mark
these are the other organizations that checked the work. they did their own models independently and came to the same result. and that they haven t done yet. now, we know the ntsb, the aaib, we know rolls royce, we know boeing, there are a whole variety of companies that have all worked with them on this. so far, none of those other bodies have been prepared to say, yep, we are the ones who verified inmarsat s data. finally, richard, one piece of information that seems to be coming out of the analysis over the last few hours is the idea that this idea explains now how they came to the conclusion that the flight ran out of fuel. can you explain that to me? reporter: well, you have the various data that shows these so-called handshakes. it s about page 38 or 39, if anybody s looking at it and wants to follow along. and those satellite and those handshakes continue until you get the last partial handshake.
