The 72nd Republic Day was witness to the best of India and the worst of India. The best was widely expected, even though due to the coronavirus pandemic, the show had to be scaled down. Yet, the R-Day parade at Rajpath showcased the emerging India, a confident and atmanirbhar India, admittedly beset with myriad challenges but nonetheless determined to overcome them all.
The pandemic had forced the parade to be compressed considerably and the route it ordinarily traversed to be drastically curtailed, with invitees maintaining social distance and wearing masks. Notably, even the security forces on duty and all military and civilian participants in the parade sported face masks. In a word, everyone observed discipline at the R-Day parade.

Beating Retreat ceremony to have Swarnim Vijay composition marking 50 years of India s victory over Pakistan
A special new composition Swarnim Vijay would be played to commemorate the 50 years of India s 1971 victory over Pakistan in the Beating Retreat ceremony to be held on January 29 to mark the end of the four-day-long 72nd Republic Day festivities.
The composition will be led by Lieutenant colonel Vimal Joshi and Havildar Jiwan Rasaily during a quick march at the historical Vijay Chowk where the ceremony takes place.
Among other new compositions this year, the Air Force band will have Tiranga Senani and Nida Yodha, Navy Band will have Bharat Vandana, Army Mil band will have Garud Prahar and Sambodhan Eco and Massed Band will have Bharat Ke Jawan.

Bangladesh armed forces will also march on Rajpath on Tuesday, the ministry said. The Bangladesh contingent will carry the legacy of legendary Muktijoddhas of Bangladesh, who fought against oppression and mass atrocities and liberated Bangladesh in 1971, it added. India is currently celebrating the ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’ - Golden Jubilee year - commemorating the country s victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war that led to the creation of Bangladesh.
The Indian Army will showcase the main battle tank T-90 Bhishma, infantry combat vehicle BMP-II-Sarath, mobile autonomous launcher of the Brahmos missile system, multi-launcher rocket system Pinaka, electronic warfare system Samvijay among others during the parade on Tuesday, the Defence ministry noted.
