Silkyara tunnel rescue: A part of the tunnel collapsed after a landslide, after which the workers were stuck inside. The tunnel is part of the Char Dham all-weather accessibility project.
Rescue workers have drilled through the 60-metre stretch of rubble of the collapsed Silkyara tunnel. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel are expected to enter the steel chute pushed into the drilled passage and bring out the workers one-by-one.
The operation to rescue the trapped workers in Uttarakhand s collapsed tunnel has faced delays due to broken auger drill blades. However, the process of removing the parts of the auger has been completed, and the drilling and pushing work will now begin.
"The attempt at rescue is in progress and rescue is expected to be carried out very soon. It is machinery work so a stipulated time can't be decided. The rescue work will go on at night as well," said IG.
