Delhi Development Authority (DDA) offered temporary accommodation to Wakeel Hassan, a hero of the Silkyara tunnel rescue operation, after his house was demolished in a drive. Despite the offer, Hassan declined, insisting on a written assurance. He and his family spent the night on a footpath, supported by neighbors. The DDA stated that the demolition was part of planned development, but residents claim they were not given prior notice. The Silkyara tunnel rescue operation, which Hassan was part of, used rat-hole mining and gained recognition for its success.
Yashpal Arya accused the government of indolence and negligence, alleging corruption in the awarding of contracts and pointing out the absence of an escape tunnel in Silkyara Tunnel that could have averted the tragedy.
