republicans, if they were moderate, should never have voted in favor for. so this is what made you interesting is congressman, you and i ve talked many many, times you are also gracious to come to my show very early on a weekend morning, we don t come from the same place as a lot of members of congress. members of congress, in this country, tend to be pretty rich, generally speaking pretty white. you have a completely different background, and makes you and a handful of other members of congress say, don t mess with regular peoples lives. don t punish the regular people for the stuff. and, yet we are falling back on this. we are doing those things like with the irs agents, like with the debt ceiling, that are going to hurt regular people. that s exactly right. so the policy consequences of not having more working class folks, in congress. are devastating. it s why we have not yet passed a 15 dollar minimum wage for the united states senate. it is why we still don t have voting righ
democratic party. the democratic party needs to lean more fully into poor people, but it s not a moral issue which will actually change their electoral success if they do so. through the percent of the electorate in battleground states, more than 45% of the electorate. we have gone out and talked to people, and they say nobody talks to us. the truth of the matter is, the reality is political happenings and moral holdings are different. what turns people off are things like this. republicans are too often obsessed with obtaining power and support, within the purposes of greed and lust. sometimes democrats are over doubly about moderate success. we need to generate 52 senators, locking a 15 dollar minimum wage, would lift 55 million americans out of poverty. we can t be satisfied with that. 52 senators blocking health care, 330 people dying during
care system in this country is absolutely broken. millions of working families cannot find decent quality childcare. on average it cost about $15,000 per child. we have workers fleeing the child care industry because the pay they receive our starvation wages. everybody knows one before the most seemed port and how do we strengthen childcare? regardless of income, regardless of where you live, all children able to get a decent start in their lives. you have been a big proponent of the fight for 15 dollar an hour minimum wages. by the way would get someone $30,000 a year for anybody who thinks this is runaway wages. we have seen in the last few years, because our low unemployment rate, that wages have organically gone up. $7.25 is the national minimum wage. we have seen higher wages in that. what is your sense of that? there seems to be a move towards higher wages that is
trying to make it seem like, you know, neo-liberal economics works, when it doesn t. i think that you go into most parts of the country, and people want a 15 dollar minimum wage, the people who are out of touch are the republican senators who do not want to move that forward. and similarly, with universal health care, with so many of the things that we talk about, but we do have to go and listen, and we do have to go and make sure that everybody understands. we are open to everybody being everyone who really wants to move the country forward, we want to be the party, we are the party, democrats are the party of freedom, family, and faith. we believe in freedom, the right to vote, freedom to make decisions about our own bodies, we believe in keeping families together, and supporting families, and we believe in faith in our constitution. and in our democracy. so, i think that that is what we need to go up, we need to speak to everybody across the country about. just a side note, one
