uses a baseline cost of $34 trillion over ten years. elizabeth warren is using that number saying that she could find savings of $13.6 trillion which leaves $20.5 trillion in new government spending and this is where she says the savings come for from. insurance, prescription drug reform, payment reforms. things like that. and this is where the new revenue comes from and every last one of those things, almost every one of them is a tax of some sort. but she manages not to have middle class taxes in there. right. and i think that was her goal in this, right? the big question at the last debate was are you going to tax the middle class? and she didn t answer that. so this says no, no, no, no, i m not going to tax the middle class. and, you know, her numbers i think in that sense work out. there are a lot of other kinds of taxes and, hey, the middle class spends a lot now in terms of premiums, deductibles. so for that to be taken off their plate and not to get a new tax, this is a t

i got almost every republican to vote for my budget. we have a balance plan that brings us up to balance in ten years. it doesn t happen overnight. i don t think we can do it faster than seven, eight, nine years. let s have the debate and agree on a premise, we can t keep running up the debts. let s talk about these numbers. we have to put this into perspective. these numbers come from steve rattner who was here an hour or two ago. i don t think he s voted for a lot of republicans in his life but we agree, steve and i agree. i think you will too. look at this graphs. the outstanding debt, $13.6 trillion. he says that s bad enough. then you look at the unfunded liabilities that we have talked about for a very long time. unfunded medicare liability $35 trillion. then you look at the total obligations. this is the number.

extend the recovery act tax cuts. the stimulus which is controversial and a lot have argued it has not been effective, does expire at the end of the year so the tax cuts would also go away. the president s expression of support for extending them today doesn t really shock anybody but the idea he wouldn t pay for it after all of the rhetoric and the debt commission that is underway right now talking about austerity and ways people will be responsible for spending taxes in this country and not keep loading up the $13.6 trillion debt, there is a disconnect. neil: what is interesting, now my tax cut is bigger than your tax cut, or you know, let s keep pushing who has the bigger tax cut, but, bottom line, where do you think this ultimately goes in the three weeks or so of the lame duck session?

television today that the federal government, that has $13.6 trillion worth of debt ought to continue to spend half a billion dollars a year on government subsidized medias? juan: what you are going to hear, i can anticipate this for you, senator, you are going to hear from every local station around the country because npr has member stations and everybody in that district is going to call up and say don t defund public radio. it s as if public radio would disappear if it wasn t for public funding. i don t know that it would disappear so the question is though, how do you respond when you start to get that pressure from npr constituencies? well, i think you respond by looking at what the constitution says, juan. where is it in the constitution that says the federal government is supposed to be funding competition for private networks with a public television or public radio in any way? you know, it would be different if we had the luxury of not having trillion-dollar deficits.

hosted by juan williams and here is what he said. from us, the question is, is there not enough choice and sloationz in the media, radio and television today, that the federal government that has $13.6 trillion of debt should spent half a billion a year on government subsidized media? here is what they propose, in may they started a program that takes a page from american idol, or survivor, and asks the voters, not viewers, to vote on what federal funds you would cut out of the budget. so, this week, he wants to add npr because of the outrage and people feel with the george soros money but they feel npr has not been nonpartisan and there is evidence of it having
