my republican leadership colleagues were saying that the democrats are going to shut down the u.s. senate in january because of this trial. i just want to go on the record one more time, mitch mcconnell has shut down the united states senate for an entire year. the house while they re doing impeachment has sent us over 300 pieces of legislation to improve people s lives, 90% of which are bipartisan, and two of them relate to gun safety, which one more time today, we see what s happening in florida. 282 days ago the house sent us a bill, bipartisan bill on background checks. mitch mcconnell won t take it up. when they talk about how we re waisting time in an impeachment, mitch mcconnell has been wasting time all year on what the american people want us to be focused on. we put up on the screen, enacted laws in the 114th congress. in the 115th congress, 2015 to
obstructing justice and obstructing congress that much stronger. but there are other democrats who believe that including anything from mueller s report makes this effort seem too back ward looking, make it seem like it s about 2016 and not about 2020 and that might further poison any hope they might have getting bipartisan support later and that it might make for a more difficult vote for some moderate democrats on the house floor. this is an active debate. no guidance yet on exactly which way this will break. but it will be a decision made by nancy pelosi and those committee chairmen who will be deciding what s in and what s out. let me ask you about new reporting that came out from the wall street journal about the phone call between rudy giuliani and a budget phone number within the white house. they say it s not a phone number that is directly related to omb, pushing back against that, that democrats list add phone number
