more in american life to be honest. that is a different thing than what he is being interviewed for. he is nominated for supreme court and a judge s job is not to make law. judge s job is to defend all of our constitutional rights and the bill of rights in light of the precedential questions he s been talking about. so, he has another book besides the one you re talking about. i haven t read it, i ve read in it. i ve seen excerpts in his book about assisted suicide. he has another book on the role of precedent and that s been a key part of a lot of our hearing questions today and it s pretty clear that this guy isn t running for the supreme court as if it s an election or a campaign so he could be a super senator or super precedent. he believes in law as he receives it, not laws he wishes it to be. you ve been critical of president trump particularly when he was the republican nominee. i wonder, how confident are you that judge gorsuch, if confirmed will stand up to the trump white
during the entire 114th congress, chevron deference was mentioned only twice on the senate floor. but between the announcement of your nomination on january 31st and last week, that decision was mentioned 30 times by four different senators. each of those four senators [ inaudible ] the case while speaking in support of your nomination. three of those senators are members of this committee. so, i know you re choosing your words very carefully and i know you re trying not to signal how you might rule in certain cases, but i think some of those signals have already been sent. thank you. senator sass. thank you, mr. chairman. judge, i you are just watching the confirmation hearings for judge neil gorsuch, president trump s pick to replace the late justice antonin scalia on the united states supreme court.
house if they exceed bounds of the executive branch powers. i believe 100% confident. he s a judge s judge. he believes in three but separate equal branches of government. the founders built this constitution about pluralism and distinguishing and dividing what the they called departments, we call government. fundamentally the difference between legislation and execution of the laws is a fundamental part of our constitutional architecture and this guy believes in all three branches. i don t think the guy has any concern the day after he s confirmed whether a democrat or republican put him on the court. he cares about the three branches, not the two parties. let s turn to the subject of president trump and the russian situation. on the day that president trump first made the false wiretap allegations against president obama, you released a fairly powerful statement that read in part, quote, we are in the midst of a civilization warping crisis
