But millions of us were born overseas and have parents and siblings we need to visit (ideally while still healthy and alive). When will the government realise this is more than a political campaign? We need a risk-appropriate plan for expanding the numbers of people permitted to travel. This might be through the vaccination rollout or expansion of the quarantine system. It should not be a discussion of open or closed borders but of a safe and gradual transition towards, first, a broader definition of essential travel and, ultimately, all kinds of travel. -
