Congratulations, Jenna Price, for your article about alcohol being weaponised in sexual assaults (“Rapists are weaponising alcohol”, February 23). During my teaching career, I have been a chaperone teacher at many Year 12 formals. A number of times I have volunteered to drive young women home who were too intoxicated to stand, let alone protect themselves.
Comparing apples with oranges is usually unhelpful. However, would you expect to emerge unhurt from racing across a busy freeway or jumping into a lion’s den? In an ideal world, young people don’t engage in underage drinking, adults drink moderately, they don’t mix intoxicating substances and all men are respectful of others. As our ideal world is unattainable, people of all ages must heed the advice not to put themselves in

Shared pathways for Glenbrook, Lawson and Wentworth Falls
In 2021, Council will create almost 3km of new shared paths in three Blue Mountains towns/villages.
The new pedestrian pathways include 600 metres at both Glenbrook and Lawson, and 1600 metres at Wentworth Falls.
These towns are high priority for works as they provide much-needed connections from their centres to popular destinations.
“Providing shared paths in key locations encourages the whole community to ditch the car, get active and safely reach some of the wonderful recreational activities we have in the Blue Mountains,” said Mayor Mark Greenhill.
“Improving connections benefits everyone, including those in our community living with disability.

A young woman, allegedly assaulted in March 2019, brushed aside in order to keep her job (“Ex-staffer says rape claim was dismissed”, February 16). If our government can’t speedily handle this claim it’s no wonder so many victims are reluctant to come forward.

The issue is not so much that the Liberal Party has a “woman problem” but that the Coalition government has an issue with morality – not just sexual morality.

I now feel a total sense of hopelessness and despair (“Net zero action: Cabinet shuns climate laws”, February 10). All sense of urgency to ensure the safety of future generations and biodiversity on this planet is being completely ignored and used as
a political plaything. What can we possibly do, as citizens of this country, to convey this utter despair to our supposed leaders? Anything?

Just about every institution – including state governments, business, unions and farming groups – want net zero emissions by 2050 to be legislated. But the Coalition federal government still demurs. Scott Morrison is fearful that the same fate is in store for him that was meted out to Turnbull.

Deputy Premier John Barilaro is wrong to accuse Greens MLA David Shoebridge of politicising bushfire funding (âBushfire damaged areas get zero fundsâ, February 8). The politicisation occurred when the NSW government decided to allocate these funds on the basis of whether the electorate is held by the Coalition. As is the case with so many grants programs in NSW, decisions are no longer based on need or merit, but on the political benefit to Barilaroâs party and its Coalition partner. -
