Commissioners approved a dog boarding and training facility in the Wadena County board meeting on Feb. 2. The facility can have a maximum of 25 dogs.
Owners Mark and Jaclyn Rice plan to begin with a six kennel building which can expand to 12 kennels, as well as an additional building of 12 kennels depending on the demand. The facility in Aldrich township, (Section 27, Township 134 north, range 34 west), will also include fencing and trees to limit noise. Both the fencing and trees must be added by June 2023. The surrounding areas are farm fields, according to the Rices.

The body cameras worn by Wadena County Sheriff s Office deputies are WatchGuard branded technology from Motorola. Deputies turn them on during any call for service.

The Wadena Police Department planned to replace three squad car cameras this year for $15,000 and thanks to the approval of city council Tuesday, Jan. 12, they’ll also be adding body cameras for all full-time officers.
The additional expense adds up to about $40,000 but is to be paid for over five years at $8,000 a year. Chief of Police Naomi Plautz said they are stretching payments out over five years because they plan to replace the cameras every five years. WADENA, Minn. A Wadena County jailer/dispatcher went beyond his regular duties to help someone fulfill a wish from across the country.
Karla Ann Ruter, formerly of Wadena, is now living in a sailboat off the coast of Florida. She called the Wadena Police Department looking for help. It wasn’t something most people would consider an emergency, but it was something that was very concerning to Ruter.
For years she has visited the grave of her son Erik Piepkorn, who she said died at just 4 months old, a week before Christmas in 1986. Erik was buried next to family members in front of the mausoleum in the Wadena Cemetery.

During the search, more than 200 grams of methamphetamine, 650 pills and $1,650 cash were seized.

WADENA Authorities confiscated just over $22,000 worth of street value methamphetamines Monday, Dec. 28, at a residence in Wadena.
The Wadena County Sheriff’s Office, West Central Drug and Violent Offender Task Force, Wadena Police Department and Wadena and Hubbard counties special weapons and tactics teams executed a search warrant at the residence on the 700 block of Third Street Southwest.
During the execution of the search warrant a 39-year-old man was arrested on an outstanding warrant from June for felony escape from custody out of Otter Tail County.
