Lakin, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–For the second time in 21 days, Scott City would travel to Lakin to face the Broncs. This time around, it was in a win or go home situation. Lakin would take a close game after the first quarter, and blow the game open in the second quarter, thanks to strong defense, en route to a 61-34 win over the Beavers Tuesday night at Lakin Middle School.
Scott City would score three seconds into the game for their lone lead of the night at 2-0. After the game was tied at eight, Lakin scored eight straight to build a 16-8 lead with under a minute left in the first quarter. The Beavers got a three-point play to close out the first quarter to make it 16-11. Lakin would dominate the second quarter, starting the first five minutes off with a 20-2 run to build a 38-13 lead. The teams would trade baskets, and it would be 41-17 Broncs at the break.

Cimarron, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The first two matchups between the Cimarron and Scott City boys were postponed, and Saturday afternoon, the teams finally were able to face off at Cimarron High School. While the Beavers led it most of the way, the Bluejays would make a push late. Scott City would hold off Cimarron in the end and pick up the 45-40 road win.
The opening eight minutes would see the lead change five times. Cimarron led 9-8, before the Beavers scored the first six points of the second quarter to lead 14-9 with 6:17 left before the break. Cimarron would score the next five points to pull to within 14-13 with five minutes left in the half. Scott City scored eight of the 11 points of the half to take a 22-18 lead.

(westernkansasnews.com)–Saturday’s doubleheader between Goodland and Scott City matched up a pair of teams that looked to take some momentum into the final month of the regular season. It would end up being a doubleheader split as the Goodland Cowgirls never trailed in a 57-37 victory, while the Beaver boys rallied for a 54-43 victory. The games were originally scheduled for January 5, but due to the extended moratorium this year, they were moved to this date.

The No. 8 ranked team entered Scott City on a tear from the previous night, as they dominated Lakin 52-20. It would be the Cowgirls who would continue their defensive domination early on. Goodland would lead 8-7 after the first period of play. Scott City had their chances to lead late in the first and early second quarters, but were unable to get over the hump. The game would change in favor of the Cowgirls with 6:46 left in the second quarter on a Talexa Weeter four-point
