GALESBURG Dennis Little III pleaded guilty Tuesday to Attempt (First Degree Murder) for his attempts to stab Galesburg Police Officer Pat Kisler on Oct. 30, 2018.
Pursuant to his plea, he was sentenced to 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, of which he will have to serve 85% of the sentence. He will receive credit for 829 days in custody. All other remaining charges against Little were dismissed.
At the sentencing hearing, Knox County State’s Attorney Jeremy Karlin gave a factual basis for the plea. He said that Kisler responded to a trespassing complaint about Little for an apartment in Moon Towers in Galesburg. When he arrived at the apartment he attempted to get Little to leave. At first, Little opened the door, yelled “suicide by cop” brandishing two knives and then started to slam the door. Kisler and another officer prevented Little from closing the door. Late morning on Sunday, February 7th, Galesburg Police Officers met with a 19-year old Galesburg woman at the Public Safety Building, along with her father, who claimed that while leaving Moon Towers on Academy Street, around 9:00 am, she was approached by an unknown vehicle. According to police reports, a dark blue Chevrolet sedan pulled up behind her and a white male subject asked her “if she wanted to buy some weed.” When the woman saw that the male was getting out of the car, she began walking faster away from the vehicle. The male subject came up from behind and threw her in the back of the car. Inside the car, a white female subject with blonde hair and a white female with dark hair took the woman’s cell phone and began battering her. The vehicle made its way to US 164 towards Monmouth.
