GALESBURG Alongside the new squad cars that have been brought into service in the fourth quarter of 2020, Galesburg police are now also equipped for the first time with body-worn cameras, in a program that will incorporate both in-car and body cameras into the same program.
According to a release to press Friday from the Galesburg Police Department, officers assigned to patrol duties have been issued and will now wear body cameras while on duty.
The use of the camera will promote “trusting relationships with the community,” according to Galesburg Police Chief Russell Idle, by increasing transparency and accountability for everything the department does.
