Question of the Day

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) - An observer as intrigued as any watched the second game of Mississippi State’s baseball series against Vanderbilt from a hotel room in Minneapolis nearly 900 miles northwest of Hawkins Field in Nashville.
Wait, what?
A pitcher whose Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Minnesota Twins earlier that afternoon on April 24 had rooting interest in the matchup pitting the hottest starting pitcher in college baseball at the time against a Mississippi State sophomore with aspirations of becoming just that.
On the eve of Minor League Baseball Opening Day, one of the best pitchers to ever come out of Mississippi State got a familiar assignment to begin his first full season as a professional.
Four hours due south of Dudy Noble Field in Starkville is MGM Park in Biloxi where Ethan Small is set to make his Double A debut with the Shuckers.

That puts him on the fast track to make his Major League debut, possibly as soon as this season, with a dominant 0.86 ERA across 21 minor league innings pitched in 2019.
Earlier that same year, Small came up very big for the Bulldogs, winning SEC Pitcher of the Year en route to their College World Series appearance.

The first permanent truck to be used for seating at Mississippi State’s Left Field Lounge at Dudy Noble Field arrived by pure happenstance, the way Starkville resident Russ Rogers tells the story.
Rogers, a 1976 Mississippi State graduate, moved to Starkville in 1980 after he finished law school and opened a law firm in town with William Ward. The firm represented a local bank, which Rogers met with every Friday morning. He recalls sitting in the conference room, glancing out the window at the back of the parking lot and noticing a red, beat up truck.
