Partridge and Blackbird’s attendances were waived in North Battleford Provincial Court July 6. An agent for Partridge’s lawyer asked the court for an adjournment to go over new disclosure defence received. The court heard that more disclosure is expected. Disclosure consists of the Crown’s case against the accused and usually includes search warrants, the charging document, details of the offence, audio/video and transcribed witness statements, statements from the accused, expert reports, exhibits, private communication intercept authorizations, evidence, and criminal records of witnesses and the accused. Stormy Wapass-Semaganis, 23, from Edmonton, Denver Roy, 36, from Sweetgrass First Nation, Melissa Semaganis, 41, from Poundmaker First Nation, and a young offender who can’t be identified in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act were also charged in connection to Moosomin s murder.
Defence lawyer Bill Archer said Wapass-Semaganis wanted to be present today. “I explained to her the process but she is most anxious to know what is going on. She has no prior criminal record and she is very nervous about the proceedings, which is probably a good thing.” At Wapass-Semaganis’ previous provincial court appearances defence had said a bail hearing would be held in Court of Queen’s Bench. First, a bail verification report was needed, which was ordered. A revised report was then ordered after the first residence for her house arrest wasn’t suitable. Wapass-Semaganis’ co-accused Denver Roy, 36, from Sweetgrass First Nation also had an appearance scheduled in court today. His appearance was waived.
Lyster waived his client’s attendance in North Battleford Provincial Court on May 26. Roy, however, is expected to appear by CCTV at his scheduled June 9 appearance. Roy’s co-accused Stormy Wapass-Semaganis also had an appearance in court today. An agent for lawyer Bill Archer asked the court for an updated bail verification report. Wapass-Semaganis and Melissa Semaganis are seeking bail in Battleford Court of Queen’s Bench. Wapass-Semaganis is charged with first-degree murder. Semaganis is charged with accessory after the fact to murder. Tye Partridge and Jannay Blackbird are charged with first-degree murder. A young offender, who can’t be identified in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with accessory after the fact to murder.
Police have charged six people for Moosmin’s murder. The other five charged are Tye Partridge, 23, from Moosomin First Nation, Denver Roy, 36, from Sweetgrass Frist Nation, Stormy Wapass-Semaganis, 23, from Edmonton, Melissa Semaganis, 41, from Poundmaker First Nation, and a young offender who can’t be identified in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
