Rachel Arndt, who has years of experience in galleries and museums in Queensland and New South Wales, has taken up residence at the award-winning The Condensery - Somerset Regional Art Gallery in Toogoolawah. Rachel Arndt was recently appointed by Somerset Regional Council as the Gallery Curator to build the profile of the council managed facility. Ms Arndt has more than 15 years experience in the visual arts sector and has a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Visual Arts Honours and a Master of Arts Administration.

Teenagers eager for careers in the emergency services will have the opportunity to kick start future careers with a new cadet program.
An Emergency Services Cadet program is set to be established in Lowood, giving teenagers aged 12 to 17 an opportunity to learn the ropes as well as become more engaged with the community.
Somerset Regional Council approved the project at its recent meeting, councillor Jason Wendt said it will help teenagers that “weren’t sporty or into music”.
“This is a great program that offers plenty of benefits for young people in or region,” Cr Wendt said.

A former Brisbane lord mayor will take the leading role of the Lockyer and Somerset water collaborative as it pushes to secure a sustainable water supply for irrigators.
High-profile leader Graham Quirk was on Wednesday appointed as the new collaborative chair.
Mr Quirk said he was thrilled to be advocating for the region’s water security and would continue with the momentum outgoing chairman Stephen Robertson had fought to get moving.
“I’m very excited to be joining the team at such a crucial time and am confident Stephen’s dedication to the role over the past two and a half years has the project well positioned for success,” Mr Quirk said.

Outback Queensland landholders have been left stunned after their land values skyrocketed by more than 150 per cent.
On Wednesday, Queensland s Valuer-General released new land values, effective from June 30, for 25 shires across the state.
Key points:
Land values for 25 of Queensland s Local Government Areas have increased after revaluation from the Queensland Valuer-General
The biggest increase is in the Diamantina Shire in Western Queensland, which saw primary production land values rise by 155.1%
