Where did our common sense go?
How can we affirm that a subsidy to a luxury car dealership will improve the community of Vanier in any way, shape or form? Dealerships are not an appropriate use of land on an artery in Ottawa’s urban core, let alone subsidizing this type of business.
Montréal Road was designated as a “traditional main street” and any city investments should be targeted towards achieving that goal, not taking us further us from it (the Salvation Army project comes to mind). A Porsche dealership will bring nothing to the community of Vanier and certainly doesn’t bring us any closer to an attractive, active and vibrant main street that all Ottawans would be proud of.

Troy Finner, a 30-year veteran of the Houston Police Department, became HPD’s new leader this April. That makes Finner the fourth new big-city police chief appointed in Texas since January. Finner was preceded by Al Jones in Arlington, Eddie Garcia in Dallas and Neil Noakes in Fort Worth.

I’d ask the client: What’s changed? Is the need short or long term? We would need to look at the implications for the client’s long-term retirement strategy. What’s the size of the financial gap? What are the children’s circumstances and incomes?
I’d acknowledge the client’s feelings and intentions regarding her children’s well-being, asking her to tell me about her conversations with them and her concerns.
