West. Youll see winds but far less snow totals. Future tracker 6 showing here is the storm and timing it pulls up the eastern seaboard and rapidly intensifies off the coast and still hundreds of miles to the east. That has not changed but its so big it will push that precipitation shield a little farther west here and the worst of it will be tomorrow morning for that rush hour and then eastern new england is going to get whacked by this storm to large magnitudes. In fact for us here locally its a strong noreaster, beginning 10 00 p. M. To 2 00 a. M. A dangerous morning rush hour and tapers off late tomorrow afternoon. After that the dangerous windchills and record colds come in. We have cecily tynan here with more on that and the injection of cold air that the storm brings. Im waiting in the wings talking about the cold air to follow. As the storm system continues to push up to the canadian maritimes its deepening and strengthening as it does. Even as the snow stops falling we feel it in the form of arctic air come straight dont from canada. The winds are gusty all day long into friday. You see along the shore, the beaches we are looking at wind gusts of 50 to 55 Miles Per Hour. And interior south jersey and central delaware. 45 to 50 and the i95 corridor and north and west suburbs to the poconos and the Lehigh Valley wind gust 40 to 45 Miles Per Hour through the day tomorrow and into friday. Windchills will be a huge factor. You start to feel it wednesday evening. When the windchill drops down to zero degrees and friday and saturday was the worst of it. This is philadelphia areas north and west. 10 degrees below zero. Friday afternoon 5 degrees below zero and we do it again on saturday. We are looking at 48 hours below zero windchills. Toward the Weekend Record lows, or close to it. Saturday a low of 5 degrees, these are the air temperatures, the record low set back in 1896. Sunday morning we could tie the record low at 2 degrees. Well have more details including an updated snowfall map in the full accuweather forecast. Dangerous temperatures ahead. All right thank you. The storm is expected to have the most impact along the shore and so towns there are working hard to prepare. Action newss walter perez is live in margate with the story from there this afternoon. Reporter sharrie, it was a lovely day here at the jersey shore, i mean it was cold but a lovely day nonetheless and todays bright conditions a prelude for what is shaping up to be a rough 24 hours. The city he ventnor is hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. That includes deappointment of these two huge city owned rescue transport vehicles. We transport people from the snow to wherever we have to go and we help out the whole city and hopefully we dont get much snow but you never know. Projects have the jersey shore receiving at least 6 inch ofs snow by the time the storm wraps up. Officials are concerned but its nothing they have not seen before. A nuisance storm to us really. Hope it doesnt get worse and it goes east more and we wont get nothing. We are hoping. Down in margate the folks at the local Hardware Store people are preparing for the storm by buying snow shovels and salt. And top severals are anything that keeps the plumbing from freezing. We are completely sold out of heaters and pipe installation. And everything is just kind of wiping out off the shelves. And the mayor of margate says whatever comes they will be ready. First we need our crews in at midnight and the trucks are all plowed up and ready to go. Salt is ready. And well see what happens after that. And so once again the blizzard warning now in effect being posted for much of the jersey shore along with a coastal flood advisory. Thank you. Of course as we just saw the coast is expected to bear the brunt of the storm and they are not taking chances elsewhere either. We are preparing for the worst and hoping for the best. So its all hands on deck currently right now. And here is what that looks like here crews in Camden County the salt yard in lyndonwald was making last minute repairs to salt trucks and loading them up to pretreat roads. This houses 1500 tons of salt and expecting 500 additional tons today. They are ready for whatever comes their way. The philadelphia Streets Department updated their plan for tonight and they have not had to brine this time around because there is enough left over from last weekend. Once it starts snowing theyll have the salt out and if it gets heavy enough they will switch to plows. Well have the city opened up for business for schools, and have septa running. By morning rush hour. Its important that we keep the roadways open and then make safe passes for everyone to come home tomorrow evening. And live look right now in Norristown Montgomery county where penndot officials are giving an update on their plans to get ready for the snow and keep roads clear once the snow storm moves in overnight. Turning now to the eagles as the team gets back to practicing for the playoffs. The players made it clear they know they have work to do and they are getting down to doing it now. Ducis rogers joins us now with a look how practice is going. Reporter trying to stay sharp and make sure there is no rust until the january 13th game. The focus today and likely will continue to be on the quarterback nick foles. Unless he gets on the field and performs well there will be concerns. Which nick foles will will see or the guy that lit up the new york giants last month. One thing working in his favor he has playoff experience and here is his advice for the teammates that do not. Its faster than the regular season. To put that out there but also football. And you are not doing it alone. And that is something i remind myself all the time. Im not out there playing alone, im playing with ten other guys playing offense. Not anyone individual has to be superman, we are a team. We were 133 as a team. And accomplished those wins as a team and well do this as a team. Youll get used to it and all of us will be there. I have never played in a football where there has not been adversity. And the playoffs are wild. They do this as a team and yesterday coach Doug Peterson said they will rely on the run and take pressure off foles. Ducis thank you. Time for the action news traffic report. Ducis duckis i dont know. Matt pellman with a check of the weather. Its going be wild, i think there say strong potential for that. We saw a few weeks ago it takes very little snow to really mess up a commute. A rush hour, and so for tomorrow morning we are expecting a really dicey commute. Police chief robert tracy says part of his plan is to engage with the community and shootings were up 31 in 2017 compared to the year before and the total number of homicides are at their highest in six years and the chief says the majority of the Violent Crimes are committed by the same individuals going back and forth. Our victims are victims and the next day offenders and these individuals where we had close to at that time about 150 shooting victims, they had more than 2,000 arrests between them. Chief tracy says that the changes will not happen overnight but that his department is committed to making a positive difference. It has been a historic day on capitol hill. Two democrats were sworn in narrowing the republican majority. One is doug jones the first democrat to represent alabama in 25 years. And former Vice President , joe biden escorted jones into the senate for the swearing in. He upset roy moore in alabama to fill attorney general, Jeff Sessions old seat. The shift in power narrows the majority in the stat to 5149. As is tradition mike pence participated in ceremonies for both jones swearing in as well as minnesotas tina smith, the Lieutenant Governor replacesal frank enand his resignation took effect yesterday after he was accused of sexual misconduct. And an interesting moment there on capitol hill. There were three Vice President s on hand for the senates first 2018 session in washington. Biden, and passenger and Walter Mondale was on hand as smith took her oath of office. She was once a senator in their native minnesota. It is time for the accuweather forecast. So much to watch in the next 24 to 48 hours. A lot of those totals are still on the map where we had yesterday but shifted them a bit and added more of the shore. But we are talking about snow still and talking about ridiculous windchills here at the end of the week. As we go to the weather center, we look at Winter Weather alerts we have here. Its all broken down by regions, Chester County all points north and west and most of southern pennsylvania, Winter Weather advisories in r in effect tonight and tomorrow. That is where the least amount of the snowfall will be occurring. They see snow but not the highest totals. Trenton and wilmington and most of interior south jersey, and winter storm warnings, you have wind and accumulating snow and the heaviest of the snow and the strongest of the winds are along the jersey shore and Sussex County in delaware where blizzard warnings are now in effect. Blizzard warning what does it mean. It has nothing to do with the amount of snow at all. Its three or more hours of winds that gust to 35 Miles Per Hour or greater, you have either falling snow or blowing snow that is on the ground reducing visibility less than a quarter mile. So blizzard basically is just a reduction of visibility and very strong winds. Nothing to do with the amount of snow coming down. As you look at the temperatures right now. 24 allentown and 23 in lancaster, 31 trying to get to freeze first degree philadelphia and millville and below freezing at the shore. This storm as we talked about yesterday brought snow to northern florida and southern parts of georgia, South Carolina, north carolina, as it is pulling up the eastern seaboard. And future tracker 6 showing that the precipitation will start to fall as snow around 9 00, 10 00, 11 00 tonight at the shore and start to hit philadelphia around the midnight hour and the leviest of the snow is during the rush tomorrow morning at 7 00 a. M. Area wide and then it starts to wrap out and move out early tomorrow afternoon at 1 00, you can start to see the lighter colors from the west and its gone late thursday afternoon and thursday night. This is how much we are expecting, when you think of blockbuster noreaster, you start to see 12 and 18 inches and 20 inches, this is not that storm. Its a coating to inch north and west and 1 to 3 inches for most of the southeastern pennsylvania and the city of trenton and wilmington and dover 3 to 6 inches of fluffy snow and right along the shore that is where you see the jackpot the a half foot to as much as 10 inches of snow. Then the dangerous part of the storm for everybody is the harsh winds and windchills that come in on the western side of the storm. Starting tomorrow evening, if you go out to clean up the car or sidewalks or driveway. Zero allentown and 2 below reading and 5 in millville. When we wake up on friday morning this is how it will feel. 29 below in the poconos. And 15 below in allentown and 8 below in millville and these below zero windchills last more than 48 hours. As we look at the exclusive accuweather forecast. Winter weather advisories and also those accuweather alerts for thursday, friday into saturday and 26 with the snow and wind tomorrow. Sub zero windchills all day friday. Friday night, saturday night, and sunday morning. Highs only in the teens and record lows to start sunday with a high of just 20 degrees. Well chat about a big warmup in the accuweather forecast in the next after hour. We need that. Thanks adam. More action news at 4 00 coming up after this. Adam joseph in the Action News Weather Center with the latest on the storm. And the continuing cold. We are keeping an eye on what is up. Its a two part storm, the snow and wind first and the wind and dangerous cold to follow the storm friday and saturday. Well talk about both aspects of this storm. As we take a look at it on stormtracker 6 live double scan the classic noreaster that blossoms in the south but this go around this develops way down to the south so far south it brought snow into northern florida today and now bringing significant snow into parts of South Carolina and north carolina. And ten it continues up that eastern seaboard. We look at this and time it with future tracker 6 at 7 00 tomorrow morning, that is when the midatlantic sees the heaviest snowfall and the senter of that storm is still hundreds of miles to the east but such a large storm that is why we still get scraped by it as it passes by and then it winds up and becomes a beast here if you are in eastern, southern new england or northern new england. This is the storm that you want to watch. They are going to get the worst hit by it. As they will have the closest approach. But nonetheless we have to worry about blizzard warnings at the coast, the blowing and drifting of the snow wilmington and trenton and Winter Weather advisory with the least am of snow to the north and west. 50 Miles Per Hour wind near the shore and also reading and lancaster and windchill watches in effect for the mountains here for carbon and Monroe County thursday evening through saturday afternoon feeling up to 20 below zero and all is said and done. The windchill advisories if not warnings extend all wait across our entire viewing area. Well talk about the windchills and how much snow to expect where you are, coming up in the full accuweather forecast. All right adam thank you. Coping with the winter season is a whole lot harder than in the years past and its hard on our bodies and cars and houses, john rawlins talks about expert plummers how they are keeping peoples pipes from freezing and heaters running. So what we have done in this situation is by the time wemeteric kenny, the lines in this bathroom have thawed. And shared how best to avoid a similar situation sfwh leave this to a trickle overnight. Keep your vanity doors open and if you have a ceramic heater have it pointed toward the actual piping your best option to get the heat to the enclosed area. Be patient and careful. The goal to raise the temperature in spots where lines freeze, if you dont heat spare rooms let warm air in and basements use foam around water lines and if you have a problematic space where a pipe has frozen before consider heat tape. Its a cord auto match and plug it in when you get the extreme temperatures. And increased demand on motors and igniters and flame sensors leading to failures as heaters fight the cold. They reduced more and its freezing the past week and a half and they are tax aid lot more than they normally would. They found the problem not be mechanical and leaves sucked in by an air intake that sucked it in cold. Its blowing the leaves around. John rawlins, channel 6 action news. From protecting your home to your vehicle now. There are lots of things can you do to be sure you dont break down while driving and start while checking the pressure in your tires. You want to look at the sticker on the inside door panel of the drivers seat to look for the psi that your particular tires require and make sure they are inflated properly. The colder it is the more air your tires lose. If that low pressure light goes on do not ignore it. Janet with aaa says the other thing you can do is check the power in your vehicles battery. The typical car battery lasts three to five years and if the power is marginal consider replacing it. And starting up your vehicle on the frigid mornings. If you do that it is for your own comfort to get the heat going and seats going. But there is no need to let the car run for 10 minutes. As for the snow if you have to drive in a snow storm the best thing to do is be prepared. Have a full tank of gas and an emergency kit in the car. Not for this young man not for now. Having been raised in the south, its a big deal when it happens. Its like never ever. Nice for the kids to see that. Aint that the truth. It goes to show you how impressive number one the cold air is in the country right now. And also how strong this storm is. It developed that far south to bring snow into florida. Lets take a look at what we have to deal with this form. And its an array of laealerts. That is advisories from Chester County to the Lehigh Valley and the poconos. Its windy and cold. And winter storm warnings, trenton philadelphia, millville. Most of the heart of the delaware valley. Well see accumulating snow not the most but tricky travel but the blizzard warning along the shore. That is where we see the heavy amounts and the strongest winds combining for a blizzard warning because of the wind and reduced visibility. Right now 31 degrees in philadelphia. We hit 33 for a short window of time this afternoon in the city breaking the below 32 degree threshold for a week now. 24 allentown and reading and 39 in dover. So everyone else south of that Freezing Point that afternoon. Satellite 6 along with action radar here come the clouds and seeing that precipitation coming in from the carolinas, that storm is still to the south and starting to intensify and bringing snow charleston as well as raleigh and also fighting dry cold air on the western edge of the storm. This is indeed a powerful noreaster tonight into the day on thursday. The pressure of this storm 1,000 millibars, we talk about storms a lot especially hurricanes, to see what sort of category they are. As this deepens especially east of new england it will drop 40 millibars in 24 hours, you heard the bomb term, because its rapidly deepening. The pressure will be 960 millibars that is basically hurricane strength. This is an unpress denned pressure for a winter storm. Bringing two feet of snow for parts of new england and halifax and nova scotia getting whacked by this just getting grazed by inches here. As we look at future tracker 6 at 11 00 the snow is coming in from the south and west and 7 00 tomorrow morning the miest snow falls during the morning rush and fights dry air to the west. Well see how much dry air punctures into the storm. By 1 00 that steady snow lifts out and gone by late tomorrow afternoon. How much to expect . They range from a few inks, coating to an inch far north and west. Most philadelphia counties 1 to 3 inches of snow. If the moisture wins out its like 3 inches. Same for wilmington and trenton near the 3 inch mark and 6 to 10 inches along the immediate shore line where they get most of the snow but again its not like your typical noreaster with feet of snow but inches of snow. Travel delays at the shore and coastal flooding winds 50 to 55 that could create Power Outages at the shore.
