Senate Majority Leader Mitch Mcconnell says, the American People should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court justice, therefore this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president. Mcconnell sets the senates schedule, so his remarks could signal an intent not to confirm anyone nominated by president obama. Democrats are pushing back. Senate minority leader harry reid says filling the vacancy is one of the senates most essential Constitutional Responsibilities. And it would be unprecedented for the Supreme Court to go a year with a vacant seat. With the remaining justices generally divided 4 to 4. The next nominee could be crucial to the courts decisions for years to come. Now president obama says he plans to nominate a successor for Justice Scalia in due time. Dozens of parents held a protest in Liberty Square near the court house saturday the School District has approved the proposal to close 3 under enrolled schools ambler, a. R. , lewis and Holly Springs elementary schools. The district says it will save the district almost 12 million but some parents dont think its best for their children. We had 3 meetings, each had 2 to 300 people in them at the individual schools they were trying to close and it was a resounding no. Deputies say 20yearold akello jeter was charged with murder, after he provided details they say only the murderer would know. The charges were filed two days after the body of autumn hunt was in a wooded area off sims chapel road. A gunshot wound to the head. Jeter is being held at the Spartanburg County detention center. Police say the crash happened saturday morning in the eastbound lanes of i 78. Tractor trailers, box trucks, and cars were tangled across three lanes of traffic. Life to the cornerstone of our democracy the rule of law. Myra there are differing opinions and who should nominate his successor. Many republicans in congress and on the campaign trail are calling for the seat to be filled after the next president takes over. President obama says the decision is bigger than any one party. I plan, in due time, to fulfill my Constitutional Responsibilities to nominate a successor. There will be plenty of time for me to do so, and for the senate to fulfill its responsibility to give that person a fair hearing and a timely vote. Justice scalia was confirmed to court in 1986 after a 980 vote unlikely well see that with his successor. The letter states its from the New Hampshire state Voter Program and the state attorney investigating the mailings. I was very upset that we did receive it because it had our name on there and lot of other names on there, saying that we didnt vote. That we voted in the last election but not the one in 2012. We did not live here then, we lived in the indianapolis area and thats where we did vote in the last president ial election. Geralee and her husband richard say they thought the letters looked fake, but are still disturbed that their names, address and vototg history was publicly available. I dont even know where they got the information from really. Hanover town clerk Betsy Mcclain says all the information is public and can easily be found online. For many years, the checklist, the basic sacred scroll of the voters has been public information, but people have had to come to town hall and actually go page by page. Now with the statewide voter database that information is easily exportable. The letters were sent. Clearly its to shame people into voting, i guess, or that im supposed to go door to door and get my neighbor to vote who hasnt, but im not sure thats the best way to start off neighbor relations.
