We have an update an a story we told you about earlier this month about a potentially deadly design rail on guard rails along thousands of mes of american roads and hoise. Missouri and massachusetts are taking action and making changes. Abcs brian ross has the latest. Reporter this test shows what is supposed to happen when a vehicle hits a guard rail headon. An ingenious device reflects the rail off to the side. Now after a rash of accidents where guard rails pierced vehicles and people inside, state highway officials are taiking action. Rebecca dryer lost her right leg. It essentially was a spear that came through my car. Reporter lawyers say a slight modification in the design saved a few dollars but created a dangerous flaw. Makes all the difference in the world. Reporter this animation shows what the lawyers say can happen with the modified version. And missouri said it is stopping further use of the guard rails. And massachusetts said it will halt their use while they investigation. These 24 states that take safety seriously. Were hoping well see more states do the same. Reporter Trinity Industries insists the guard rails are safe, theyve passed crash tests and meet federal standards. These guard rails are in almost every state in the country. That guard rail, they are saying the end of the guard rail they shrunk it from 5 inches to 4 inches. It saved 50,000 and thats one of the reasons there are these deaths now. To cut costs by 50,000. New Defense Department video shows some of those targets exploding and sending huge clouds of smoke into the air. The goal is to cripple the main source of revenue from sales of black market oil. A woman who will only identify herself as karen says she was sitting on a galveston, texas, beach when a car drove right at her and then slammed on the brakes. She immediately recognized matthew. Despite the fact its been nearly two weeks since anyones seen or heard from Hannah Graham, the Authorities Say they have no idea where she is but theyre holding out hope that she is still alive. Detectives from virginia are on their way to texas to question this man, 32yearold Jesse Matthew, who appeared before a judge in galveston after a nationwide manhunt led to his arrest in the disappearance of uva student Hannah Graham. He appeared confused by the charges and was not required to enter a plea. I read him his rights, as i did every other defendant in the county jail this morning. Virginia denied his bond. The whole process took 60 seconds, maybe 90 seconds. Reporter matthew will be extradited back to virginia where he and graham were seen together just minutes before she disappeared on september 13th. On tuesday, Surveillance Video showed matthew walking into a texas gas station. The Authorities Say a texas Deputy Arrested him wednesday during a routine patrol on Bolivar Peninsula where matthew was camping on the beach. Why he went there is still a mystery. Its more than 1,000 miles from the mall in these Surveillance Videos where the police say matthew bought several drinks for graham who is 18 years old. We can speculate why it is he was in galveston, texas. But it would be only speculation. We dont know for sure. On saturday, matthew hired a lawyer, but his family insists hes innocent any of crime. To kill or hurt somebody, thats not my son. Reporter police say the search is still on for Hannah Graham. We dont know where Hannah Graham is, and we have to find her.
