The initial 911 call according to Police Sources came in just before 8 00 last night with the caller reporting seeing a flash in the sky. Nypd harbor units recovered offshore. The nypd believes at this point, only one person was onboard this twoseater plane. They recovered debris including a wing, wheel and tail according to sources. Were told the plane was headed from philadelphia last night to maine. The faa is investigating. The nypd does plan to resume the search for more debris, anything else that might be left later this morning. Weekends crash of a russian jetliner in the egyptian desert. U. S. And british Officials Say they have information suggesting the plane may have been brought down by a bomb. All 224 people onboard were killed. The flight was headed to the red sea resort. A u. S. Official says intelligence suggest someone at the airport helped get a bomb on to the plane. An armed suspect and police Janelle Burrell is live if the scene with more. Reporter you can see theres still a police car here park add long springfield avenue where they have the empty lot taped off at this hour. But we want to show you what it looked like last night when scene. This all unfolding around 7 30 here in the park. Were told that police were responding to a call for a male suspect who was armed. The suspect apparently firing at officers. Officers here returned fire and in the process, a bullet grazed a little girl who was here nearby. She suffered only minor injuries but the suspect in the this case, he was shot as well. He was taken to an area hospital where he is expected to survive as well. Police are still investigating this case. Its not clear exactly what the circumstances were leading up to the shooting here this morning but we are expecting to get an update from police later today. Happening today, a city official and archaeologist will be onhand this morning near Washington Square park after human remains burr rid more than a hundred years ago were discovered. We have more from the scene. Did that creep you out a little bit . It does. Reporter a bizarre and surprising discovery along Washington Square park east. A burial vault dating back to the 19th century with a large pile of human remains. People in the neighborhood fascinated by the find. It doesnt creep me out as much as it intrigues me. I think thats really cool. I do. I think thats awesome. Washington square park used to be like a burial site so it makes sense that they found bones. Reporter the remains are just steps away from was used as a potters field, a public burial place after the revolutionary war. The vault which is about 18 feet deep and 20 feet long contain the remains of more than a dozen people. People now curious about who the remains could belong to and how the bones survived hundreds of years. It would be interesting to figure out who they are. You would think they wouldnt have been preserved that long. Reporter the commissioner with the department of design and construction tells us by phone theyll be working with the Preservation Commission to investigate this discovery. In an exchange of gunfire with police has left one person injured. Janelle burrell is live from the scene with more this morning. Reporter yeah, chris, conning for us hah a little girl was grazed in the cross fire between police and the suspect here last night. You can sees abury park police have a car surround ising this empty field that they have taped off as they continue to search for evidence in this case. This is a situation that has really frightened people in the neighborhood. All of this unfolding around 7 30 last night. We can show you what the scene looked like at that time with a working the scene. And they say this began with man. And at some point, shots were fired by that suspect. They tell us that officers did return fire and in the process, grazed by a bullet. We can also confirm that the suspect was shot as well. And police do tell us that the little girl and the suspect are recovering fine, both expected to make a full recovery. Obviously, this is still an active investigation. The plane went down last night. Andrea grymes is live with more. Reporter well, chris and mary, the nypd overnight suspended the search, not because of the incredible amount of fog behind me but because they believe they found just about everything after the Small Plane Crashed including one body. Happening today, a Court Appearance for the man accused in a series of hammer attacks in midtown. Police say video shows david barrel hitting a female officer in midmay before being shot by her partner. And he was seen in cbs 2 news video attacking a woman walking down the street. And police say he attacked three other people. He is charged with felony assault. Also happening today, another Court Appearance for so called soho wild man. Richard pearson is accused of stabbing a man with a pair of scissors last year. Residents say he has been terrorizing them for years. He has more than 20 arrest on his record including drug and assault charges. Police are now on the hunt for three people they say robbed a man on the subway. Investigators just released this video of two suspects. It happened october 26th about 1 30 in the afternoon as a northbound c train was approaching the subway station. Police say the three suspects held the 24yearold man down the, ripped his cellphone from his hand before taking off. Residents are being credited for helping foil a group of thieves going door to door stealing packages in new jersey. The two spotted a group of suspicious men in a black suv. She saw two of them get out and run up to two homes. She shouted at them and then called 911. I was on my cellphone and talking to police. And i saw them here and there. A resident shot video of police arresting the suspects in their backyard. A fourth suspect is expected to surrender. Some big new York Companies are joining together to oppose the 15 statewide minimum wage propose sal. Governor cuomo is calling for a minimum wage of 15 an hour. Test showed that he had alcohol and marijuana in his system at the time of the crash. He faces up to life in prison. An alabama boy who went missing more than a decade ago has been found in ohio. He went missing in 2002 and its believed he was taken by his father as a noncustodial abduction. The boy is now 18 years old. A neighbor who didnt want to show his face is stunned. I think he said he was from alabama. But you know, thats about all i know. I knew he was in the navy or thats what he told me. I never got into his personal life. Police harbor units will be back in the waters at sunrise where a small plane went down last night. The crash was deadly. Andrea grymes is live in breezy point with more this morning. Reporter well, chris and mary, it wasnt this foggy last night. The nypd has suspended the search operation not because of the weather but because they say they found pretty much everything including one body after the Small Plane Crashed off breezy point last night. The nypd special Operations Division tweeted out several pictures last night and overnight as they worked off breezy point. And the initial 911 call came in before 8 00 p. M. And we are told from Police Sources, the caller reported seeing a flash in the sky. Nypd harbor units recovered debris about a mile and a half offshore. This point only one person was onboard this twoseater plane. And they also recovered debris including a wing, a wheel and the planes tail. Now the plane was headed from philadelphia last night to maine. The faa were told is investigating. The nypd plans to resume the search for any remaining debris. No word yet on the identity of the victim and no word why this plane crashed. Reporting live, andrea grymes, cbs 2 news. Thank you. Story. An armed suspect and police Exchange Gunfire in new jersey. Janelle burrell is live from the scene with the latest on this. Reporter yeah, mary, this is a situation that could have ended far differently. A little girl was grazed in the cross fire between police and the suspect here last night. And Asbury Park Police are still here on the scene this morning keeping watch over the field where earlier they were combing the area for evidence as they continue the piece this investigation together. Youre now looking at what the scene looked like earlier last night. And all of this unfoaling around 7 30. Police say this began when they were confronting an armed suspect and at some point, that man fired shots at police. And officers returned fire and that little girl who was nearby was caught in the cross fire, grazed by a single bullet. And we are told that the suspect was shot as well. Both the little girl and the suspect expected to make a full recovery. At this point, its not clear what charges the man will be facing in this case. Reporter yeah, chris, this began as a confrontation between an armed man and police here in asbury park and ended with that little girl grazed by a bullet in her head during a shootout between the suspect and police. And this morning, you can see that police are still out here at the scene along Springwood Avenue. They have this field taped off. Earlier they were searching it for evidence as they tried to piece this case together. All of this unfolding around 7 30 last night when police were confronting that man. At some point, shots were fired by that suspect and the fire. That little girl who was nearby was grazed by a single bullet and we can confirm that the suspect was shot as well. Reporter chris and mary, the nypd at this point believes only one person was aboard that plane and they do confirm they have recovered one body. The nypd has suspended operations, not because of the fog that you see behind me but because they believe they have found nearly everything. Lets show you pictures that the nypd special Operations Division tweeted out last night and into the Early Morning hours as they worked along with the Aviation Unit and harbor unites here. Police sources say the initial 911 call came in before 8 00 last night with the caller reporting seeing a flash many the sky. And nypd harbor unites and a half offshore including a wing, a wheel and the planes tail. Were told the plane was heading from northeast philadelphia to maine last night. The faa is also investigating. The nypd does plan to resume the search for the remainder of the debris later this morning but as you can see in those pictures and video, there was an issue with fog last night so investigators will try to figure out what caused the plane to crash. An armed suspect and police Exchange Gunfire in new jersey. Janelle burrell is live with an update this morning. Reporter and chris, this is the situation that could have ended far differently. That little girl we can now confirm was sitting inside of her home when she was grazed by a stray bullet during that shootout between officers here and the suspect here last night. And police are still here onscene this morning keeping watch over this empty lot where they were scouring for evidence here overnight. And all of this unfolding around 7 30 last night here near Springwood Avenue in asbury park. Police say this began with a confrontation with that armed suspect. And at some point, shots were fired from the suspect and officers returned fire. During the course of the shootout, the little girl who stray bullet on her head. Well. A city and an archaeologist will be onhand this morning near Washington Square park after human remains buried more than a hundred years ago were discovered. Did that creep you out . It does. A little creepy, yeah. Reporter a bizarre and surprising discovery beneath this construction site along Washington Square park east. A burial vault dating back to the 19th century with a large pile of human remains. People in the neighborhood fascinated by the find. It doesnt creep me out as much as it just intrigues me. I think thats really cool. I do. I think thats awesome. Washington square park used to actually be like a burial site so i mean it makes sense that they found bones. Reporter the remains found are just steps away from Washington Square park which was used as a potters field, a public burial place after the revolutionary war. The vault which is about eight feet deep, 15 feed wide and 20 feet long contain the remains of more than a dozen people accord to the department of design and construction. People now curious about who the remains could belong to and how the bones survived hundreds of years. You would think they wouldnt have been preserved that long so its really fascinating. Reporter the commission we are the department of design and construction tells us by phone theyll be working with the landmarks Preservation Commission to investigate this discovery. As soon as the workers found something out of the norm, they immediately started the protocol so we can start looking in more detail about what was happening. Human remains were found in the park. It happened in 2008 during a soil testing project residents are being credited for helping foil a group of thieves going door to door stealing packages in new jersey. And some of the same defendants are facing charges in new jersey for allegedly stealing and car jacking vehicles in jersey and new york and also shipping them to west africa. It may cost more to get dropped off and picked up from area airports. They are considering charging taxicabs and ride sharing cars a9 the airport. The Port Authority says they are among the few that dont charge access fees. Many passengers say if it happens, theyll end up paying and theyre sick of the fees.
