Investigators are trying to track down this 14yearold girl connected to the case. That part of the case goes back four years ago when the d. A. s office says father mark haines posed as a 16yearold girl on an internet dating website. Now, the arrest and charges came this week for possessing and disseminating child pornography for an entirely different situation. Chester county das office tells me that tipsters came forward last month reporting that two images were found on an Instagram Account belonging to haines. In the eightpage criminal complaint investigators say haines admitted to sending and receiving child pornography through instagram and email and the accounts were traced back to the rectory here as saints simon and jude. The complaintc reads that hain admitted to receiving 100 images and sending about 50. Police are still trying to find the victim on the instagram photos. Theyre also as we mentioned trying to find that 14yearold that haines allegedly had contact with, dating back to 2010. The defendant was pretending he was a 16yearold girl and they were sending lewd pictures back and forth. So at that point, we arrested the defendant, grabbed all of his electronic equipment and we will be doing an investigation on all that electronic equipment to establish the full scope of what went on here. Reporter now, the archdiocese of philadelphia is talking about this case, saying in part these charges are serious and disturbing, adding there were no prior indications that father haines was involved in activity of this nature. Additionally, no allegations of sexual abuse of a minor have ever been lodged against him. Mark haines started here at this church just over a year ago. Hes worked at nine different parishes since 1985. The d. A. Tom hogan tells me that was immediately a red flag. They wanted to take him into custody right away, in part because there is a school right next to this church, as kecked with this parish. Haines is being held in the Chester County prison. Skyforce 10 over a fire that destroyed several apartments in voorhees, camden county. You can see flames shooting from the building at the Club Apartment homes. Three Police Officers and a firefighter were injured trying to get out of this building. The officers and the firefighter were treated for smoke inhalation. They are expected to recover. Officials say there was a fire at this same apartment complex in july from a Lightning Strike and todays weather conditions did not help the situation. You can see the wind gusting now, you know. As the fire vented through the roof, it was just carrying it down the roof line, setting the ridge line on fire, extending the fire into the bulling further. 20 people were displaced from the six apartments destroyed in the fire. The wind still kind of gusty, 24 miles an hour, trenton, 25 in mt. Pocono. Not quite as strong as it was yesterday. That wind is going to be diminishing tonight as the temperatures go down into the 50s by 10 00. i rain will return and more 70 plus temperatures with the sevenday in a few minutes. New information on an alleged parole violation from the former boss of the philadelphia mob. Joseph skinny joey merlino was found guilty on one of four counts and will go back to prison for four months. He violated probation by meeting with mobster friends in south florida. His lawyer hasnt said if he will appeal. He has 30 days to report to prison. A local pennsylvania lawmaker is agreeing to plead guilty to accusations she used her elected office for political and financial gain. Shes going to plead guilty to the charges. As of now, thats correct, yes. The attorney for Leanna Washington confirming to nbc 10s Deanna Durante that the state senator will plead guilty at a hearing. He would not say what the exact terms of the negotiated plea are. The 69yearold democrat is facing felony charges for allegedly using her taxpayerpaid staff to plan and perform political activities. Washington lost her reelection bid in the may primary. Nbc 10 is asking questions about a police chase that turned deadly overnight in the lehigh valley. We brought you this story live this morning as breaking news on nbc 10 news at 4 00 a. M. Officers in easton were pursuing a man for allegedly driving recklessly just before 1 00 in the morning. Then there was gunfire at the crash, the man died. Randy gillian hall just got an update from the county d. A. Have you learned if the suspect died in the crash or from gunshots . Reporter well, the autopsy results are not clear right now, so investigators still dont know if that crash into a power pole or the gunfire killed him. The District Attorney just wrapping up this News Conference says two officers were forced to open fire, from the easton and Palmer Police departments after this driver was pulled over for driving the wrong way and then fled from the cops. Hours after the crash, utility crews worked to repair the power pole that was destroyed during this police chase ea. Early this morning, a pickup truck crashed into this easton intersection after a pursuit. I saw the lights in my windows, theyre all flashing in. Reporter police were surrounding the truck, yelling at the driver. I heard the cop say, like, get out of the car, get on the ground. And i heard them, and then i heard a couple shootings. I was like, thats not good. I ran like upstairs to make sure everyone was okay. Reporter according to state police who were conducting the investigation, at least two local Police Officers fired at that suspect. Hes been identified as richard sherman, 39 years old. Now, prosecutors tell me this suspect had a selfinflicted wound to the throat. They did find a knife inside his car. Much more on this coming up at 5 00. Peco crews were called to inspect wires in danger of catching fire. The red cross is helping that family. A School Police officer was hurt today trying to break up a fight at the swenson school in southeast philadelphia. Police telling us two students were fighting over money. When the officer tried to break it up, she was punched by one of the students. Police now questioning that student. A man wanted on charges of killing two people at a Philadelphia Bar two days ago was caught during a traffic stop in southern tennessee. Sheriffs deputies in bradley county, tennessee arrested tyheme melton after they stopped his rental carc allegedly for speeding. He was arrested after giving a fourth incorrect i. D. They found the warn the for his arrest in pennsylvania. Police arent sure how long hes been in tennessee but he has a Court Hearing there next week. Today is the sixweek mark in the Police Manhunt for eric frein. Hes one of americas most wanted for allegedly ambushing two Pennsylvania State troopers some 42 days ago today. Police say eric frein shot and killed Corporal Bryon Dickson and injured douglass in pike county. State police and federal agents continue to scour the densely wooded areas of Monroe County for frein. Thats where investigators believe frein was spotted monday near pocono east high school. Theyre still looking into whether a car that was stolen from the poconos and later found in new york has any connection to frein. New video of philadelphias historic city tavern back open for business today. The restaurant and bar reopened for lunch after a Dumpster Fire forced it to close for a week. The same casino employees who had their hands cuffed by police and stopped traffic in Atlantic City two weeks ago will picket an hour from now, this time in front of the taj mahal, which a bankruptcy judge sided with, allowing the company to stop contributing to their Union Health Benefits and pension funds. Union members are angry at billionaire investor carl icahn. They say he wants workers to work for free. Icahn lashed back with this, quote, the taj mahal is quickly running out of money and will almost certainly close. Cydney long, nbc 10 news. Hundreds of taxis in philadelphia could soon be out of service because they dont have proper insurance coverage. The Philadelphia Parking Authority says the South Carolina company that provides insurance for about 25 of city cabs can no longer do so because of financial troubles. That leaves hundreds of taxis in philadelphia scrambling to find a new insurer. The deadline for them to do that is 5 00 this evening. Ppa Officials Say at some point next week theyre going to begin to ground any cabs that try to operate without that proper insurance. Nbc 10 spoke to Dennis Welden of the ppa today. This Insurance Company was no longer acceptable in philadelphia. It just didnt have the assets to cover potential liabilities. So we advised the taxi owners they needed to find new insurers by 5 00 today. An attorney who represents many of the Taxi Companies says its chaotic and irresponsible for the Parking Authority to take this action so quickly. From our Jersey Shore Bureau Atlantic City International Airport may truly go international. The airport hasnt had International Service since canadabased west jet grounded its flights in 2010. As we promised earlier, were back on the air with a significant update to what we now know is a fatal School Shooting in marysville, washington. It happened at the pilchuk high school in the cafeteria today. Authorities say what they believe to be a student opened fire in the cafeteria. We know that two people are dead. Police say the shooter is dead and another person, not known if that is a student or an adult. In addition, four other injured were transported to hospitals. Three of them are said to be in very critical condition. It happened about 10 45 pacific time at the school. Its a short drive, short distance, north of seattle. Austin taylor was a student who was about ten feet from where the shooting happened. He talked to king tv in seattle and described what he saw. And he was quiet, sitting there, everyone was talking. Weve lost some of that tape. Let me paraphrase. He was ten feet away, he saw this person with no expression pull out what he described as a small pistol, opened fire. He saw three kids fall from the table, appearing to be lifeless in his description of it. He says the shooter then tried to reload or the gun may have jammed. This person mr. Taylor said he went under a table and during this brief period when the gun jammed got up and ran and heard additional shots. Youre looking at what weve been watching over the last couple of hours, students being methodically being brought from classrooms. Police have been going from building to building. This is a campuslike layout. Theyve been going from building to building, clearing, just in case there are additional shooters or any otherc danger the students. But the students are being taken, bussed away to a Community Church where theyre being reunited with their parents. Again, we know that two people are dead, including the shooter, four young people taken to hospitals, three of them in very critical condition. And it will be much, much lower by tomorrow morning. The big storm is way offshore and the circulation around it still covers our area and thats why we continue to see the wind. But the mild air will be moving in as we head into next week, especially tuesday and into wednesday. Well be seeing temperatures way warmer than even what we saw today. Police are now telling us a student who was a member of the football and wrestling team had a blank stare when he opened fire in the cafeteria about 1 30 eastern time, wounding at least three people before killing himself. Again, two people were killed, including the gunman. Four others were hurt. Well bring you more at the top of the 5 00 show. Police at this time still have not told us about a motive. We hope to have that information for you. Now the latest on the ebola situation. The dallas nurse treated and cured of the virus walk out of maryland hospital today and into the white house. Nina pham got a hug from president obama in the oval office today. The 26yearold, the first person to contract the virus on american soil. Meantime, new york leaders are urging people not to panic while a doctor there is being treated for this virus. As we first reported as breaking news here yesterday, the doctor contract ed while working for doctors without borders. The doctor is now being treated. We have an update on his condition. Reporter jim and ka ray, Craig Spencer remains in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital. Were told hes been talking by cell phone to relatives, this as city leaders keep urging new yorkers not to panic. I want to repeat what i said last night. There is no cause for alarm. Reporter despite renewed calls for calm from new york citys mayor, we found lingering fears outside Bellevue Hospital where 33yearold doctor and ebola patient Craig Spencer is in an isolation ward. Its a major concern. Reporter new yorkers who have not been exposed to an infected persons bodily fluids are simply not at risk. Reporter at spencers Apartment Building today, crews took the front door off its hinges to allow easier access for Health Officials to confiscate anything from his unit thats potentially contaminat contaminated. Im more concerned about him than i am for myself. Hes the one with ebola. Reporter while socalled disease detectives continue to retrace spencers steps before he felt sick, which included subway rides and a visit to a bowling alley, his fiance and two friends remain under shown symptoms. Dr. Irwin redliner heads up the National Center for Disaster Preparedness at Columbia University and is also a special adviser to new yorks mayor. This reached a major metropolis in new york city. What do you say to people, say, in philadelphia, who may worry it could spread there next. Red liner says the situation is being handled completely differently compared to what happened in dallas where he says horrendous mistakes were made. Eight people have been diagnosed or treated for ebola on u. S. Soil. Of those eight, the new york doctor right now is the only known current case of ebola. Of course one known death, thomas duncan. All the others including nurses who treated duncan or other Health Care Workers in west africa and an nbc news cameraman are ebolafree. Some First Responders in new jersey got potentially lifesaving training. The training focused on personal protective equipment and guidelines for First Responders when they suit up on scene. Scary but as long as youre well equipped and ready to take on the task at hand, you know, the knowledge having hearing from the seminar can apply it in real life. The training is available through next wednesday. Its open to all county police, fire, ems and First Responders agencies. Coming up on monday, people traveling from west africa into parts of our region will be closely watched. Pennsylvania and new jersey Health Officials will be calling, emailing and keeping tabs on travelers to make sure they dont have ebola. Nbc 10s Deanna Durante has been examining the procedures local and state Health Officials will be taking. What do these new rules mean for those travelers . For some of the travelers, they wont be getting into philadelphia at all, at least not by air. If they come in via car, bus or train theyll have to report in with the Health Departments. Were told here in philadelphia, those protocols are being enacted and 30 people are being monitored. Monitored doesnt mean quarantined which means they are free to move about the city, including in parks like these. The centers for Disease Control and prevention have announced new postarrival monitoring in six states, pennsylvania being one of them. Though philadelphia International Airport and other pennsylvania airports will not be accepting travelers from affected regions where Ebola Outbreak is present, those who have travelled from that portion of the region may still travel here. The cdc is asking state Health Departments to monitor those travelers. Airports accepting those travelers will provide them with care kits. Those who have been in ebolainfected region will have to report to Health Officials. Travelers can be expected to be monitored for 21 days. Communication will be via phone, skype or in person and Health Departments will use a symptom diary to track that information. Again, the Philadelphia Department of health confirming that it is monitoring about 30 people who are in the area but they do tell me that none of those people are showing any symptoms of ebola. This is merely a precaution. Cdc guidelines, again, they start officially on monday but Health Departments in our area are monitoring some of those pell. We do have a pretty good weekend for just about any kind of outdoor activity. The one exception is its going to be windy. A lot of sunshine, a fair amount of wind, especially on sunday. Otherwise, its dry and then next week, weve got some 70s coming in the forecast. Were pretty close to that right now at 69 degrees, the wind, 13 miles an hour, thats sustained, 12 degrees warmer than at this time yesterday. Weve seen that roller coaster who is 70 degrees tuesday. We had two really cold days and then today, tomorrow, a little bit above average. Next week, way above average at least for a couple of days. Right now we are 69 in philadelphia, 71 in northeast philly. Thats the one place that has hit 70 degrees today. A lot of others 69s, 69 mt. Holly, 68 in trenton. They were like 53 at this time yesterday. The wind gusts, 24 miles an hour in trenton. Were told not quite as strong as yesterday. The places that dont have numbers are not reporting wind gusts at this hour. The big ocean storm is way out there near nova scotia. Now its far enough away that were not being influenced by the clouds. We have wind around it. Theres plenty of dry air back to the west. There also is some more mild air back to the west that were going to be seeing over the weekend. None of this 50 degree stuff during the afternoon. Or with the rain. But the wind will be there on sunday. Then on monday, the wind dies down and by tuesday, the wind is going to be coming out of the southwest. And the cwarm air returns, 70s 70s for wednesday.
