expect temperatures to be fairly comfortable. approaching 67 degrees already that the point and by 2:00 p.m. we should be up to 70 degrees and at the race time 6:15, 67 degrees. so expect temperatures to be in he upper 60's to the lower 70's and you probably want to keep in mind there could be a chance for some sprinkles. a light rain jacket, not necessarily need it but if you want to dodge the raindrops maybe that. also it's a little breezy. i've been noticing my hat blowing around a little bit so ladies, bobby pins are probably in order tore keep your hat on today. things are turning out staking out areas in front of the two stages that are here at pimlico for the infield activities with all the shows that are going to be going on. right now, the traffic as far as coming in here is going to be fine. you still have areas that you can park at for getting a bus to work your way inside to the infield here. but right now everything is moving smooth and with this little bit of overcast we have it's just excellent weather for coming out to the preakness. i'm captain roy taylor. >> noticeable changes will come at pimlico with new security measures. >> they come in response to the bombing at the boston marathon. ore on the tightened security. >> it's a picture-perfect day before preakness. private track patrons formlinging lines at windows to buy tickets but more had to stand in line for security checks. >> no knives allowed in the building. >> also tripods and cam corders. screenings include searches of women's purses and all entrances. >> the jockey club was very proactive and smart at educating people on the new changes. and we do live in a heightened state of alert. god forbid we have a tragedy like that in baltimore, we want to be prepared for it. >> and an option from ports north and south to the cold springs lane stop from there your $3.50 all-day pass will take you to a connecting shuttle to pimlico. you can also take metro to the rogers station and connect to a shuttle bus short ride to the racetrack with the $3.50 all-day pass. also park and ride from policy western high school, that's $3.50 round trip as well. light rail buses cost you eastern shore, so there are some thin clouds and breaks in the skies. there are a few sprinkles falling in montgomery county. here we are in baltimore and there's pimlico. let's take a look at the temperatures, because that's the other element of the forecast today. we're basically dry over the city. 64 is the temperature at pimlico. rain in the forecast today. maybe i should say a sprinkle or shower not rain. other temperatures at edge wooveed and 65, cockeysville is up to 63 and up west columbia 64. downtown it's almost 70 degrees. the broader picture of what's going on, more shower activity. here's baltimore. the rains are south and the strongest are off norfolk right now and the virginia beaches. but a lot of clouds around the area. there's a front stalled in virginia around western maryland right now. that's boundary. we can also see high pressure over new england pulling moisture off the atlantic ocean. so the combination of those things giving us fits as far as obscuring the sun. in the plains states that's where all the big storms are going to occur today. i think that will be the newsmaker weather-wise later today. here, not bad. clouds kind of holding temperatures down a little bit. we'll see mostly cloudy skies. maybe a spotty shower. >> the girls pushed me to put some element of sun in. so but also these spotty little showers or sprinkles could your blood, too,? >> yes. >> i started handicapping at age 12. >> so i want you to dumb it down for us today so any of us can go bet. >> ok. >> give us a sense of what we should or shouldn't do regarding orb. >> well, i think orb has an incredible chance to win, which is exciting, because he could twin triple crown. flat the favorite then you may only win two cents. so maybe bet on another horse as well. >> take charge is a dark horse, someone you may not be hearing a lot but has a chance. and take charge is my dark horse. he did well in the derby despite where he actually finished. he made a very nice eighth lengths pick-up in the race and i think is in a good condition. i expect him to be coming off the pace and flying at the end. >> how about departmenting? >> hasn't run this distance before. has not run this weight before. so i think he will be coming in at the end but i don't know if he will be right there. but it's a horserace, so it's hard to say what's going to happen. >> then my favorite. my loot which has the female jockey. >> yes. yet another one of the closers. i was a little bit disappointed with my loot's performance in the derby. my loot closed really well and was only a few lengths off the leaders. didn't fire. didn't have a heavy opportunity and take it. so we'll see i'm just not feeling comfortable there. >> is preakness your christmas? >> well, team coverage. >> ava marie and sarah sampson. good morning ava. >> good morning. i lost the card again i'm done with it. it's already warming up. we're starting to see even more sun peaking out -- peeking out of the from behind the clouds. a wlot of clouds still expected throughout the day and maybe even a shower, especially as that front is hanging down to our south. that's the front we have been tracking all morning. but it's not a washout of a pattern. overall it should be dry throughout the day but watch out for a light sprinkle in the afternoon but by the that afternoon 70 degrees will feel a little warmer. people are really starting to filter into the infield and in the grands. -- in the grandstands. we all got wanded and had our bagsal checked coming in, so that's something to keep in mind umbrellas are not allowed so even though we do have a chance for rain do not bring your umbrella, just bring a light jacket. >> now we'll head back to you girls. love the hat. >> it's down a lot. in the past couple of hours. when we first got out here around 5:00 a.m. the horses at emand y up and then the trainers were taking them out for sort of a gentle walk. they had a chance to graze. a few of them for about 307 minutes. now a lot of them are supreme court of hunkered back down. >> now he does have ties mad mother's day and a lot of people here locally are saying they would like to she him twin race and see the triple crown. we talked to many about the chance for rain and whether he thought that would impact orb's race. >> it shouldn't. he won a dishy -- derby in the slop. so it's fair for everybody. if it affects everybody, it does but i don't think it will affect his performance. >> and of course we have not had a triple crown winner since 1978 so a lot of people here would really like see that happen. now, i want to send you up to captain roy taylor who has a look at how things are looking from above. >> hi there. >> we are at 1700 feet looking over top of pimlico. we can tell you anybody working their way towards the track as far as going through security ou may have one or two minutes ait because it's -- advisor of some different traffic patterns on park heights and northern pea. northern parkway. plenty of spots still left in front of the stands. as far as both stages here we're seeing people stake out their locations in front of the two stages fantastic day for the preakness. reporting in sky team 11, i'm captain roy taylor. >> if you don't like traffic or want to mess with parking -- 11 news heck in with kurt kroncke. the shuttle buses and metro subway is the best option. there's metro subway available l-day pass and light rail transit routes. >> and if you're still not sure which dress you're going to wear to colors to the south is where the heavier cloud coverage is. in the northeast corner of the state there's thin clouds and sun is actually bleeding through. we're seeing little pokes of sun here and there. sprinkle in carroll county and a few south of washington and annapolis at this stage of the game. and everything is moving to the east so in baltimore we're kind of on the north edge of whatever is occurring out there. let's take a look at temperatures around town right now. the clouds moved last night. kept the temperatures from dropping too much but then also prevented us from heating up too much during the day. this mix calls for mostly clouds, some sun. east winds at 8 miles an hour. at the airport, 66, annapolis 65. out at colombia 64 degrees. the general satellite and radar imagery shows the bulk of the rain to the south of us with the heavier rain in norfolk, virginia then there's this front out in virginia. this front combined with the high pressure, the front is kind of the trigger for the potential for rains. we have this chance for rain today. it's not a very big chance, but it's there. the biggest storms today are going to be out in the plains states. not a lot going on right now but it could be the newsmaker as far as severe swth concned. quiet day. mostly clouds. there will be some breaks and spotty showers. high temperatures 67-72, considerably warmer than yesterday's low 80's. here's the seven-day forecast. again, around 70 today and much the same tomorrow except more clouds tomorrow and a higher chance of rain. even higher chance on monday and we'll throw thunderstorms in the mix there or at least threat of it. then temperatures go into the 80's and we could see a few isolated storms out there. but now we want to put our focus back on the track and ava, who is your guest this morning? >> i am here with mike isabella and the chef of the infield. you are feeding a lot of people today. you have been featured on "top chef" and you're going to be everyone's best friend today, because tough food going on. let's talk about the food you're serving today. >> we're serving turf side terrace. my restaurant usually does a couple hundred people a day so now it's about 6,000. >> you have the food already for that many people. what's the strategy? >> we have a huge team back there. a lot of help. we started prepping a couple days ago and it's just going to be a ton of food. first time they are bringing in a guest chef to do foot. to do the food, so i'm excited and i hope they like it. >> tell us about these dishes. >> we have some vegetarian stuff. i have some brock leaney and roasted peppers and one of my signature sauces. we have a roasted chick within a pepperoni sauce and it's also in my cookbook and then i had to do a crab cake for maryland so it's a little bit of my style. and i made a little bit of aolie like a mayonnaise and it's with a little pork in there. >> we're running out of time but i have to dig in. this is my favorite part of my job, the eating part. mmm. this is what people are going to be tasting here at pimlico. ava marie live in the infield. back to you guys. >> she even eats gracefully, doesn't that's my signature. >> but when it comes to chicken you actually bryan your chicken the day before. >> fried chicken can be daunting to people and not a lot of people fry at home. it can get dangerous. people happened that have burned their house down. >> make sure your pot is a heavy bottom pot. this is a cast iron. make sure you have a towel at all times. thermometers are important. i do from 320 to 330 for fried chicken. you want to keep ate little bit low. and the recipes are on wbal's website. so we're going put buttermilk in here. >> a lot of fell to, use buttermilk. >> and it's extremely low in fat. it looks like -- put the chick engine there. this is after it's been bryanned for 24 hours. i thought lisa was going to be here. she told me she liked a little old bay seasoning. why not? >> another important thing to have, a fire extinguisher. >> absolutely. be very careful. kosher salt, black pepper. >> since my hands are wet -- >> here, you take this towel. >> put it in the flour. mix the flour up and if you batter you hick dip it in the flour then back in the buller milk and back in the flour. >> when you cook it, how long do you cook it for? >> the dark meat takes a little longer to cook. wings will take 12-15 minutes in this oil. hear that sizzle? >> yes. we hope the sun will be sizzling later on. how do you like that segue? >> here i am.
