Details on the rest of the sevenday forecast coming up. Thank you, amy. A serial armed robber is on the loose in long island. Businesses and customers are understandably on edge. The suspect held up stores, mostly Women Clothing shops and tied up his victims in suffolk and nassau county. Eyewitness News Reporter marcus solis joins us now live with more on the story. Good morning, marcus. Good morning, michelle and rob. This is a pattern that dates back for months and last night the suspect struck again. It was around 8 30 when the gunman entered the beach bum tanning salon in Huntington Station. He forced two female employees to the back of the store, restrained them then cleaned now, we said this goes back for months. This is the only image investigators have to work with. They admit its not much captured from one of the surveillance cameras. The location we are at is not far from a similar incident that happened a few weeks ago at a pier one imports. Again they handcuffed and zip today while someone was forced to open the safe. They are going to stores predominantly targeted to women. It started out retail establishments, pet co. The subject wet into the stores where he thinks females are working. Again, only that one image captured by surveillance camera. Police believe that in some of the instances, the suspect removed the hard drive from some of the commuter systems. There is a 5,000 reward for information in this case. Marcus solis, channel 7 Eyewitness News. Marcus, thank you so much. A correction officers at Rikers Island is recovering after investigators say he was attacked by an inmate. Pictures show the officers eyes swollen shut. He has a gash in his scalp but he is covered with bruises. Police say inmate Michael Gonzalez attacked the officer sending him to the hospital. The inmate started screaming i told nobody is to touch my cell. He just started savagely beating him. Who is running this place . Is it the Correction Department or the inmates involved in these gangs . The bronx d. A. Plans to reare southeast gonzalez, a reputed gang member in jail on an assault charge. This comes one month after two inmates were accused of jumping a correction officer, ray calderon, slashing him in the face and neck. Not working quickly enough to bring reform rob . Now we turn to the latest on the mass murder in southern california. The fbi has officially invested the San Bernardino shooting as an act of terrorism after determining there was extensive attack. Officials say there is no indication syed farook and Tashfeen Malik were part of a larger plot of members of a terror cell meaning this attack was inspired by but not directed by isis or alqaeda or some other terrorist group. Overnight a ups Distribution Center was evacuated in San Bernardino after a driver spotted a syed farook. Officials quickly determined that the item was safe and posed no threat. We got our first look inside the couples home. Eyewitness News Reporter n. J. Burkett in fact was the only inside the home where so much seemed normal. Brandi hitt begins our coverage now from california. Reporter this is our first look at Tashfeen Malik, the mystery woman that police think may have been the brains behind the San Bernardino massacre. Malik and her husband syed farook burst into a conference firing 65 rounds killing 14 people, most farooks colleagues. Within moments the 29year old mother went on facebook and isis. That is shocking. Why would she do that . Reporter soon after malik opened fire on police in pursuit of her s. U. V. And died with her husband in the shoot out. The question now, did she radicalize him . This is a federal terrorism investigation. Reporter the fbi says the shooters look like self starters. We have no indication that these killers are part of an part of a cell. Now, at the couples home, as you saw a second ago, teams of reporters and cameras toured the apartment of the alleged killers. The fbi for some reason apparently determined the apartment was no longer a crime scene and turned it back over to the landlord. Media in. So, how did all this stuff get so quickly determined that to not be relevant as possible evidence . Some say this tour was not a good idea. Course. Meantime the landlord did speak to those reporters. Well, they didnt tell me they were terrorists when they moved in. That wasnt on the application. Looking back, you see this, does something trigger, you know, that was weird. No, no, nothing weird. No one saw this coming, family and landlord included. The moms apartment was filled with religion books, drivers and childs toys, exercise equipment, laundry and dirty dishes in the kitchen sink. The city of chicago is releasing details in the shooting death of a black protestors marred at city hall circling the block 16 times to represent the same number of bullets fired at 17yearold Laquan Mcdonald. Video shows mcdonald being gunned down last year after city officials fought to keep that video from being released, about a year they fought. The officer is facing murder charges and activists want the mayor investigated as well. Anything less than a full investigation of the mayor himself and what he knew and when did he know it and what he did with that information is unacceptable. Good morning, michelle and rob. A scary pattern, the victims mainly women, tied up in the store while the suspect cleans out the cash. It happened again last night at this beach bum tanning salon in Huntington Station. There were two people inside, two employees who were restrained, forced to the rear of the store while the suspect business. The women were not hurt. The suspect was described as wearing a hat and a scarf. That is the thing. Police havent managed to get a good image of the suspect. This is one from an earlier robbery. The suspect has removed hard drives from some of the out. First a petco but mainly wear women shop. Now this tanning salon is added to the growing list. Police are asking anyone with any information to contact them. There is a 5,000 reward in this case. Live in Huntington Station, marcus solis, channel 7 Eyewitness News. Member is reaching out to Muslim Americans living in new york city in hopes of calming the fear of some backlash from recent terror attacks. The major visited the Jamaica Muslim Center in queens telling more than 100 worshippers that he is washing to improve the relationship between the city and Muslim Community. This comes after the nypd ended its surveillance of muslim communities in the wake of 9 11 because of critics that blasted the program as religious and racial profiling. We have an Important Mission to between the Muslim Community and the city government. Many of the people in the crowd say they have seen antimuslim statements in recent weeks. They are encouraging the community to report hate crimes. In queens, we are seeing video of a man suspected of burning hindu prayer flags in queens. He is seen walking in the woodhaven section in the Early Morning hours of thanksgiving after the fires occurred. Surveillance video shows a man starting a fire outside of a house. Last Night Community members came together to rally against the hate that they think this arson represents. Three syrian Refugee Families arrived in new york city amid a flight from texas. Mayor de blasio welcomes the 12 syrians. Their stay is expected to be temporary until the texas lawsuit is resolved. Texas cited concerns about security. No risk. Construction equipment worth more what new york cops say is stolen by two men over a several month crime spree. They say the men used a white ford pickup truck when they robbed six construction sites in brooklyn and queens between july and october. Investigators have video of the suspects at one site. They are hoping, of course, someone will recognize them. Also, a bizarre robbery on Staten Island. Two men and a woman are wanted for robbing an 18yearold man who does not have arms. It happened outside the strip mall on Staten Island last month. Detectives say two of the robbers distracted the man while the other one grabbed his cell phone. The brother of the Singer Nicki Minaj is free on bail on charges of child rape. The victim is 12 years old. Minaj posted on instagram these he is 38 years old, jelani maraj. Police accuse him of raping a child between november and april. He is due in court next week. There are two systems developing, one down shore off the east coast and another one for the upper plains. Both of those are in the developing stages. High pressure is dominating much of the country. Monday. Once the High Pressure starts to fade, then those two systems sort of meet up on the east coast. That could mean for us, rain maybe in the coastal Storm Development and bring rain to the shoreline. Michelle. Police have been trying to summer. He struck two more times over the last couple of weeks. The latest incident last night at the beach bum tanning. It happened around 8 30 in the evening. Two employees inside the store. They were forced to the back at gunpoint where they were restrained. The suspect cleaned out the cash drawers. This is image from an earlier incident. The suspect wears a hood and a mask. In late move there was a similar robbery at pier 1 imports. Employees and customers held at gunpoint, handcuffed with zip ties and someone is forced to the pattern shows the gunman is targeting stores frequented by women, dress barn, a pattern that has changed. It started out as retail establishments, pet co and dollar tree. The suspect went into stores where he thinks females are working. Again, that is the image captured by one of the surveillance cameras. Police believe in some of the incidents he has taken the hard drives on his way out. A direction officer at rikers is recovering after investigators say he was attacked by an inmate. Pictures show the officers eyes swollen shut. He has a gash in his scalp and covered with bruises after sources say inmate Michael Gonzalez attacked the officer after he closed the cell door and sending him to the hospital. The inmate started screaming. I told nobody is to touch my cell. He just started savagely beating him. Who is, in fact, running this place, the Correction Department or inmates involved in the gangs. The bronx d. A. Plans to rearrest gonzalez who is a reputed gang leader. This comes one month after two inmates were accused of jumping ray calderon slashing the officer in the face and neck. The Union Leaders say the city is not working quickly enough to bring reform to rikers. Now the latest on the massacre in southern california. The fbi is officially investigation the deadly San Bernardino shooting as an act of terrorism after the agency determined that there was extensive planning involved behind the attack. If confirmed, that would make the shooting the deadliest at this point there is no indication syed farook and Tashfeen Malik were part of a larger terror cell, looking that this was inspired by a terror group as opposed to directed by one. The fbi says the two look like self starters and there are new questions surrounding the woman, malik with investigators trying to figure out if she is the one that radicalized her husband. Overnight a ups Distribution Center was evacuated in San Bernardino after a driver spotted a package addressed to syed farook. Mayor de blasio is reaching out to Muslim Americans living in new york in hopes of calming the fear of backlash from recent terror attacks. The mayor visit the Jamaica Center in queens telling 100 worshippers that he is working to improve the relationship community. This comes after the nypd ended communities in the wake of 9 11. We have an Important Mission to deepen the relationship between the Muslim Community and the city government. We believe that it is important for all. Many of the people say they have seen antimuslim statements made on social media in recent weeks. The nypd, which has 900 muslim men and women serving on the force is encouraging the community to report hate crimes. Three syrian Refugee Families have arrived in new york city amid a fight by texas to try to stop them from going there. Mayor de blasio says new york welcomes the 12 syrians with open arms. There stay is expected to be temporary until the lawsuit in texas is resolved. Texas cited concerns about security screening but the Obama Administration tells a federal judge the refugees pose no risk. Contradict video showing the death of a teenager. Reports filed after the shooting say Laquan Mcdonald approached officers in an aggressive manner as he held a knife. Those reports lead investigators to rule mcdonalds death to be a justifiable homicide. The polar vortex, which we talk about during the wintertime is actually always up north. It exists up there. It cannot come further south until the jet stream dips. The steering winds are well to the north. As the jet stream remains that far north we dont get the cold air sinking down. Up there locked away and we have the flynn you evens of mild air until that changes. Earn half of the u. S. Under the good vibe of weather and we see above average temperatures really the next several days. Almost the next 7 to 9 days maybe december 15th we will get cold air working in. One developing over the upper midwest doesnt look like much now but another system up the coast. If those two meet and the timing is right, tuesday we could get coastal rain in here. This is after try and buy, a family owned toy store in pleasantville, new york, announced it will close its so sad. Stores cant survive with amazon and the Online Shopping. Store owners barry and Linda Schwartz say that is the reality they are facing. We put our into this. Our sales are down to 2005 levels. Are expenses are at 215 levels. Reporter the Company Bought the struggling store in 1993. I juggle and dance, do yo yos, gymnastics and my wife said we should be in the toy business. Hard work and tlc transformed it into a go to place for toys. Try out the toys and look at them. Not like other stores where its covered in plastic. The most recent happened at a tanning salon. Marcus solis is Huntington Station with the latest. Reporter rob and michelle, no one hurt but shaken up after the incidents being held up at gunpoint. The latest taking place around it happened at this beach bum tanning salon. The suspect forced two employees to the back of the store, restrained them, then stole all the cash on the premises. This is an image from an earlier incident. It doesnt show much. Police say the suspect has taken the hard drive from Security Systems in some of the other incidents. Police say the gunmen is targeting businesses where mainly women shop. A couple of weeks ago there wax a similar incident taking place at a pier one imports around the corner from here. These incidents have taken place in nassau and Suffolk County. They date back to late august. Police are offering a 5,000 reward for any information related to these robberies.
