So tonight we are here to speak to the need of the Indian Education and how it supports the cultural needs of American Indian in the San Francisco Unified School District now i want to take you through some highlights and i want to highlight a few of our 2016 accomplishments summer science is 8 to 10 days and cultural and family night partnership with national binders conference 2016, report a nation across the state and reservation participation expansion the staff and tutoring environmentalist to school and lastly we brought a youth designation to la for the International Leadership submit in february between the 25 and 27, 2016 moving along as you can see the list is full i want to share a full of the Intertribal Community successes office staff has training for in coming families with an 8 increase in 506 forms allowing us to serve the new indianamerican families expand the corridor positions from school term to full terms. To point out it is a low job in comparison to other ethnicity but for us it it represents around 20 families that may have been pushed out of San Francisco and it just reinforces the service that Indian Tribes by supporting families in connecting with programming and different resources to stay within the city want to jump to the Graduation Rate of for native students as 53 percent compared to all students of 85 percent and we wanted that, of course, to be 100 percent but compared to the job out rates from 2011 school year 21. 4 percent to 2014 to 15 at the 15. 8 percent seeing that drop dramatically is really currently for the program to see since they started the program this is a snapshot of some data that is requested by the program to see where they can to death especially High Schoolers to see who is at highest risk of not graduating and so shows the different percentages based on if theyre on track to graduate or not. I first want to thank you all for your presentation and leadership im happy to see when this is progress made i know for a number of years a question about space and im so happy to see there is some sense of permanent around space that is for the for the most part not an ongoing concern not without a lot of fighting we try to make that happen thank you for your leadership and the School District to make sure that continues to be protected one thing that seems to come up again and again when we are here is questions around curriculum i want to ask our dignity and our Curriculum Department to partner with you all to make sure that we address some of the questions of the representation some of the you know would i would like to see us do this together to see what books should we have and materials to make sure those are in the classrooms and im this year just started with the Curriculum Department im sorry Curriculum Committee and that is something id like to bring for review so we can take into account up and down k through 12 how we are educating all our students about the experience the nativeAmerican Indian and make sure that is reflected in the fifth grade and what is happening there the other couple of things i was surprised not to have commissioner Vice President mendosamcdonnell i thought we renamed columbus day as indigenous day i looked at on the calendar it says columbus day slash indigenous day we need to take out that first part. clapping. a long time ago so you have my commitment i Board Members to address that so youll not have to come back and talk about next year the one question and happy to see the training for staff around that to make sure that issue is addressed who people come in the last thing i want to address and let it go it is Top Priorities so learn a little bit more you say adopt the policy with the Indian Education title vii code declaration on the right for Indigenous People can you talk about that in terms of how that impacts what we do in the district and why this is important to you this was one of the top 3 priorities i want to make sure we hear that. People is an International Policy were asking through the support of the board you align with that policy which devolves into all aspects of education of providing indigenous food of insuring that cultural competency is not a question but it is a deeper understanding and we would love to explore working with i all to create what that looks like that is something that the relationship with our board San Francisco Unified School District and our leaguer indian Education Program are packed and the community in San Francisco and the local tribes thank you for that. Yes. Whats been recorded to the california depth of education. Do you know if the students of native americans go to particular schools are across the district. Our students have spread out k through 12. Spread out okay. And then looking at the status of several of students and looking at page 11 the 10 percent off track up to one year and barely off track another 10 percent of students want to make sure we are providing support you have access so the programming we offer up and then curious if our students are taking advantage of that we should be thinking about to make sure theyre getting the information and actually able to follow through with the Credit Recovery support we can provide or any other mechanism that enables them to have a chance to graduating if youre not tapping what are we providing through you know whether through the center or through manipulating or whatever other means that we work with our families and students. We work directly with the stepchildren to juniors who are several off track we look at the night schools options and the programs they need to make sure they can get back on track we work directly but with did school sites. I want to make sure you have assess to the embodies that we have in our schools as well and that are particularly in the high schools and perhaps we make sure there is a direct outreach to your community to make sure their tapping that great resource a lot of the organizations that are funded by the city preprograms for the students and enables them to be sure theyre on track and following and getting support for the College Applications there is counseling that is available 67 and any of the organizations are based on in future community so their assessable to our students and find ways to make sure your tapping those organizations two and then i just have the events on my calendar now im looking forward to celebrating with you in may thank you. clapping. so thank you, ms. Phillips without any thought to how it effects the health of the students that depended on on him everyday so lets look at it from from the Mental Health from the social Development Perspective for children to feel safe they need stability transferring a teacher that is involved in their lives before and during and Affordable Housing school is destabilizing and jarring the instability for the Mental Health diverse like depression i have three children that proclaim their activities with mr. Absolutely im here and incidents on november 21st the incident lead to the students shouting match between his sister and another girl many multiple personal videos a teacher with a positive relationship with his sister stepped in to make verbal confusion before it got physical and the teacher pushed her away when the teacher returned he did it again, when a student tried to intervention our dean walked in when we pulled them away from the physical fight. When the dean walked in and pulled the students sister away he was then pinned against the wall by the student in question who was yelling verbal threats the students blocked his body and turned putting the girls behind him to face the dean and two Security Guards joined pulling the smaller Security Guard by the next to the ground two times this indicates that the student was not protecting his sister from attacking but allowing the attack to continue the teacher recorded that several students saw the incident with the reporting spread like wildfire they continued to be concerned. Brooks this is the precious right to attend Public Schools a gradual right and in the coming years ahead battles loom still last john jan our organization brought over three hundred books to a preprofessional event the titles are in the document we are san bruno to you right now this is a small sample of many, many great books about asianamericans there are many, many more those are titles that belong in our classrooms and library we didnt pick obviously books out of thin air by people on the committee College Professors and retired teachers and working teachers to select these im sure many more toilets in line shelves with our teachers and in the we need to move forward to include more books about asianamericans contemporary to a previous teacher this curriculum didnt mention asia but this is different from where we are today what was disturbing about us we only found 9 titles out of nine hundred plus titles at the elementary level ironically where the explosion of really great books has happened in the last years weve met with davie and her staff and made great suggestions as to how we can implement some of the toilets we gave her some of our ideas when they knocked on the door in 1887 may i come in the answer was no were again knocking on the door of the San Francisco Unified School District and the question may we be excluded in future publications about San Francisco Unified School District may we be included in abstains and recommend reading lists me we be included in special development may we tell new teachers about the needs of our students about the needs of of our community and about great books and history that we have experienced in this country so thank you very much commissioners come back and dr. Murase for bringing forward this resolution. clapping. good evening thank you commissioner murase and commissioner cook for the resolution aim lauren chu im with professor in the department of the asianamerican studies i cant count the time and Community Members attend the Board Meeting asking for more chinese inclusion, of course, im in support of resolution and i wanted to give a couple of points as to why it is monthly important but how the city is moving backwards when i was working on any dissertation in the 80s focused on chineseamerican stereotyped there were 60 books total for all asianamericans nationally available for Public Schools and Public School libraries i slejtd 15 of them it was on code compliant in 19 san jose and 80s, 15 books on for chineseamerican and not that they were any good those books where the library i knew that that that the schools i have a botanical teacher then theres at least 7 groups and i survived the 9 titles like one. 3 books for every group doesnt make sense i think with that data now i kind of understand why the students and asianamericans studies asked why you taking the course well, well in k through 12 i was not taught history in the United States or dont recall any books more information regarding how we contributed to the building of america and ive not heard of any struggles we had with this in the United States. And most damaging of all theyre all struggling how to deal with the whole image of us being a minority that topic is so open mind for me but not the kids constant. Thank you, maam. Im almost done longwinded as a professor but today what is interesting i feel that the lack of understanding our students have permeates to the fact how they dont understand your struggle is based on the roots of struggles of other people color in this country and especially asked questions like will we see the large number of aliens without the migration laws in the mid 60s with the institutionalizing with the immigration laws have all the asianamerican students at Lowell High School with us affirmative action and desegregation that allows them in entry in 2021 i believe we confront new fears and racism the way to divide and conquer is well on its way were becoming more and more intolerant. Hello and holly a parent in the district i want to say i appreciate the new academic calendar starting closer to labor day it makes things easier for me as a parent. Im the director of the policy for schools we had the opportunity to sit on the calendar economy i agree that was very hard working committee and a lot of thought both the proposal that is before you today, i do want to note this is something that persistent care about a lot parent dont have a direct say in in decision but this year there was a survey that went out with the Parent Advisory Committee and translated into 3 languages sfusd helped United States to get it out to many families and 4 thousand responses and it was very mixed people have strong feelings about on both sides and the one thing that came through loud and clear it will be people existed about a longer break and thanksgiving the people that are not exist is it is a hardship i hope we keep in mind and work underway to figure out if there is an appetite for the x tell essential program not funded through the grant but find ways to support the families that cant afford the care during it went it is a burden on families shifting a burner from sfusd to the families i hope that there is an effort probation officer make that as easy by providing lists of caregivers and onsite help at our schools thank you. clapping. thank you thank you all it is amazing to be here and see all the work you guys are thats the biggest commit and wanting and commissioners, thank you for being here im mr. Scott a teacher in the district my history the change that has happened now with the calendar i was when it changed before the only thing want to get it on the record for the symmetry and Summer School program and working backwards june is a high hiring time for businesses hiring time for businesses and thats when many of the kids need to be involved in working and also my is a good cut off time because for any business stand point airfares go up and balancing out the first and second semester the first time that was good for the second semester to be longer we had statewide testing in april that is decreased also working backwards on the calendar you were looking to indigenous day that is a good thing to have and Business Days a good thing to have and behove youre having thanksgiving off this is more break and with the starting the year starting earlier like the idea of symmetry two 9 weeks in the first and second semester it does allow us time to get the students i understand the idea the thing that comes up is Getting Started closure to labor day what is problematic won on the high school and school gets started you have students Getting Started and their immediately taking a break breaking the continuity i know youre familiar with a law passed we are are have to work on students not working especially with mathematics to support i have as a mathematic structure continuity is very, very important and the balance with the calendar dual enrollment is an option for high School Students with the city college this takes us off the calendar match up and i think thats all i have i want to make sure you have that and get it on the record thank you for all you do clapping. i do want to speak about the calendar for paraprofessionals youre a week off at the thanksgiving is going to be a hardship for parents they will have two days extra not paid in that pay period i want you to look at that i understand theyre paid at the end of the just year but before the holidays theyll be paid 3 days that will be a hardship for paraprofessionals i dont know if that whether two paid unpaid days in that pay period thank you. clapping. commissioner norton. Thank you i want to say im in favor of the new calendar i have gotten some folks camp mather be me about the hardship of the week at thanksgiving i want to acknowledge that that will be i know a hardship for some working families and parents as mentioned i do think that given the pattern weve seen in recent years over a a long time absence during that week this is an acknowledgment it is the way it is going to im in favor i want to urge the district to try to partner with rec and park and with you know other nonprofits to see if we can off options to families prairie with care on those days parent work or cannot afford to take the days off i want to thank you u e sf and the commission for coming up with a solution ive been disturbed with the absence and the last instruction that happens that is difficult for students so thank everyone inform coming together on this proposal i think that will be better for our kids. Two questions weve heard from the first family nativeamericans if we could choose the indigenous language and has theyve been a saifsz those two days will have and if so possible to redirect overseeing savings to create options for families to have childcare during those two days i emphasis ms. Nortons with partnership with the city but shouldnt be openal but obligated to have a list of resources for families that need conferring for that week. I can respond we are working now working closely with millie executive director for our Community Schools and family partnerships and reaching out trying to determine just what the need will be and to that end when parent rental that are the excel Program Register in the spring have a part on the registration are you interested in having some kind of childcare during the thanksgiving week get an assessment and determine and where the sites will need it issues around providing food for the students that do come to the programs do you have a School Program also that we need to look at because there will be an increased day for out of school not going to be a half a day but a full day so theres a number of issues that we have started to discuss and depending on the boards action to explore to provide options for families come next year. Mr. Sanchez. Apropo to the title of the day any prohibition for that term instead of columbus day were using that. It is a catchall kind of. Weve gone beefrt over the years and now thats a standard why not take columbus day have a board resolution. Can we just do that. Those are two unpaid days but in discussions in the committee and before this the request by the union they have floating holidays one of the i dont know if it is one or two of the floating holidays are identity to a day so well we want to give them more flexibility that he requested flexibility when theyll take for example, the lunar new years this is designated if they can have the flexibility to take that during the thanksgiving week balance it out the lunar new years week is one day and more to give them flexibility with their floating holidays. So we could use their floating holiday for those from days. Yes. Thats were going to discuss this in negotiations to go into the contract. That has not been determined. That is there to give them the flexibility in using those two days. Do the teachers get paid. Yes. Thats because of. The salaries are spread out for everyday no difference in our monthly salary. No matter how many days if youre off two weeks. You get paid over the winter break as well. But the teachers contract for those types of things are different from the paraprofessionals. The paraprofessionals get paid for the hours they work. So the two floating to use if they choose to. They have right now i think that is four or 5 i dont know if we increased it theyll more flexibility with the floating holidays to use them right now their designated that is something well write into the contract to give them that flexibility. I want to appreciate all the work that was done putting this together and followup on commissioner murase about the Financial Analysis is that possible to put together and if so when can we see that. Well, what ill do ill talk to h. R. I mean we are trying now to determine what was the loss in ada or the attention and the cost of substitutes more importantly i think that was one of the drivers with taking the week off the shore number of unfilled substitute requests that we had during that week each of one of those days 5 and 6 hundred absence that was a disruptive environment for the schools to that has been something weve looked at i mean weve talked about this before i came into this position but talked about that for four years ii, try to get some numbers in terms of the dollars amount it is i can look at that. The other thing im wondering how the absence on this day before holiday compared to other holidays. Absences for the teachers. This week. And teachers leading up to other holidays if theres like a i can imagine if we expand it a week people will leave on friday one thing what is the sense of schools having a plan from the goal to keep people the entire week before a holiday is there something that will be addressed by school sites to make sure that happens and how this compares to people leaving before other holidays like a similar problem with every holiday so and i. I think we will potentially and having never done this we are going to try this right now the situation is those two days are the hoist absentee days we see in our school year there is a desire to get a jump on a 3 day weekend i think if people have the week off theyll stay and finish the week i dont think we are going to see a big spike in the friday before the week just and you know proolg we wont have any days in school. laughter . Weve never seen a friday spike between 5 and 6 hundred. Just that we already know for spring break for example, we know the number of teachers that take the friday off not comparable to monday and tuesday with the thanksgiving recess i can say ive talked to with many principals it is an incredible burden anyone is on site that day it is crazy and nothing comparable in my view. So i do want to echo some of the statements from the colleagues, i agree with the calendar and schedule but with that said, even in my other life he dedicated to make sure we provide opportunities for families for the additional two days i have a question about did the cost of substitutes outs weigh the costs to pay the paraprofessionals for those two days. That were going to have to look at that i dont have that answer. I think we definitely need to look at that because if were going to make them take the week off we need to be prepared to consider and look at if we are paying more for substitutes and we can pay the paraprofessional i think we can look at some options i mean, if theres going to be a we can certainly explore that theyll need staff we can have that as an option can be other Work Opportunities for that those two days because maybe 3 days where theyll be you know childcare going on at the schools so thats another possibility. Im definitely not looking at for an answer but about like to see the numbers. Yeah. We need to get more information because a and going back to your other point in terms of floating opportunities that exist now you mentioned what happens in the lunar new years use that as a floating holiday but what happens because school is not in so im not understanding how this supports or prepare. The thought that allows them to distribute between the defense of having no money coming in versus a week where you can have some money coming in versus during the lunar new years you are working with the president s day so work days during that time is sdrbtdz the floaters you can distribute them not impacting the total number of days as carolyn said but presents an issue in the thanksgiving week. Im Nona Melkonian and were here with supervisor katy tang for supervisor 4 which includes central and outer sunset. Supervisor tang was appointed by mayor ed lee to serve as district 4 representative replacing previous supervisor carmen chu after she was appointed assessor reporter that same month. Before her appointment she served as legislative aide to supervisor chiu. Today youll get to know her and the issues facing the city. Welcome, supervisor. Thank you for join using us. Thank you for having me. Lets start with a little about your background. Where you grew up, went to school and what kind of jobs you had in the past. Sure, i grew up in the sunset district. Still live there. Spent about 20 years living in the sunset district and just am so proud to be able to represent the district that i grew up in and where my parents still live. I had gone through the Public Education system and went to neighborhood schools throughout the sunset district. So, had gone to Francis Scott key Elementary School, hoover middle school, Lowell High School and am just so proud to be able to come back full circle to support a lot of those schools that i went to and be part of that community in a very integral way. So, you spent most of your life in San Francisco. Why did you choose to live in the city . Well, first of all, my parents decided to move us to the sunset district because they really wanted my brother and i to have a really good and safe r growing up. There were a lot of children and families in the sunset district and i think they felt like it would be the best environment for us to grow up. So, we ended up staying out there and fell in love with it and have a lot of pride after especially working for the sunset district as the electricity i have aide to supervisor chiu for over five years. And working with very intimately with a lot of Community Members, the merchants, our local residents who have, you know, interest in things such as Public Safety or Public Transportation, our school communities, our parks and play grounds, just really been such a wonderful experience working with them. So, i just really enjoyed that Work Experience as well as my own experience growing up there. How has your experience as aide to supervisor chiu prepared you for the board of supervisors . I think that i probably dont have a learning curve on having worked in the district so long and having grown up there. I think that its been really beneficial knowing who to go to to ask certain questions, or, you know, learning how to read pieces of legislation, for example, knowing what the issues are that the city has faced. I think that those have all been really helpful experiences during this transition. What motivated you to get involved in politics . Ive always wanted to be involved in whichever community im in. For example, what ix in school i was in Student Government and, so, working in city hall was one of my first jobs, actually, out of college. And, so, i have been doing i have been working at city hall for over six years now and i just feel very much pride in working for the city that i live in. Where do you place yourself on the political spectrum, are you progressive, centrist, or more on the conservative side . I think im probably more of a moderate person. I think that our district, again, lots of families and children, seniors, immigrant community, and i think that we tend to be more classified as, you know, fiscally responsible, i would say. And, again, having my experience in working for the mayors budget office, for example, prior to working for the board of supervisors, i think that gave me a really great background in terms of how the city works, how the citys budget is put together. And those really that experience has really influenced my decisionmaking process. And speaking of the citys budget, the city just enacted a twoyear budget and it seems the city is always dealing with complicated issues including whether or not to raise taxes and fees. How will you approach these tough choices . I think that when we talk about raising fees or taxes, we always have to come at it from a very balanced approach. We have a lot of homeownerses, we have a lot of tenants in the city. And, so, again balance is really key. I think we also have to approach the budget and some tough fiscal issues looking at the citywide budget as a whole and not just looking at specific sectors or issue areas that we real have i to look at the citys financial standing as a whole for the long term. Thats really important and thats definitely what drives a lot of my decisionmaking process. And i think its also tougher in San Francisco because we really are held to a very High Standard where we have to balance the budget every single fiscal year. We cannot run into a deficit in the new fiscal year. We cannot print more money. We are held to a High Standard by our charter and, so, i think thats why these tough decisions are made every year rent. What other issues do you feel are facing San Francisco . I think for San Francisco and also elsewhere, one of the biggest issues right now is really how do we ~ attract Economic Development and spur job creation. And those are two things that really go hand in hand and really is what makes the city vibrant and a place where people want to live and can afford to live. And i think that keeping those citywide goals in mind, to really want to try to also make sure that locally we support our Small Businesses and all merchants, for example, give economic benefits and help create jobs as well. What are your thoughts on the citys Economic Development . Do you feel were on the right track . I think were on a very exciting time right now in San Francisco where we have a lot of energy in terms of businesses and especially the Tech Industry wanting to locate in San Francisco and thats something that we really havent seen as much in the past after the dotcom boom. And, so, we are in a very exciting time and we really see a transformation going on in our city because of that. What would you like to see change about the citys approach to developing its economy . I think that really depends on the changing times. And there isnt sort of one solution for the entire city. It real i depends on kind of what the dynamics are going on with the economy as a whole in the region. Not just looking at San Francisco, but really as a regional body. Sometimes district issues are different than zvi issues. What do you feel are some of the biggest issues facing your district . ~ city i think because we have a lot of children, families, seniors in our district, they care a lot about your quality of life issues, right. And its the reason why People Choose to live there. They want to make sure that your streets are repaved, that our potholes are filled, that Public Transportation works for you, that, you know, your parks and play grounds are safe for your children to play in, students can go to local schools. I think that those are all important issues facing district 4 and will continue to. How have you balanced the needs of your district versus the needs of the city as a whole . I think that as a District Supervisor, we play that balancing act every single day in our jobs. And we respond to all of the constituent needs, whether they doll us, whether they email us or talk to us in person about a problem, we try to sort of bridge the resources that are in the city and help connect them with whichever department it is they might need to be connected with to resolve their issue. ~ but also at the same time we are citywide representatives and we vote on legislation every week that impact everyone in the entire city. I think that when we take those votes, for example, we keep our district interests in mind and how they might want us to best represent them on citywide issues. You mentioned transportation and muni earlier. What do you see about transportation for your constituents, is there enough needed service . I think especially given the fact the sunset district is located so far from the central portion of the city, that transportation is difficult for them. And as you know, there are some issues with switch backs for example on muni and folks feeling like, you know, they dont have adequate service down to the end of the line. So, i have worked with mta and were trying to figure out solutions to address that. But i think overall our residents really just want to make sure that they can get from where they need to go from the sunset district or back home via Public Transportation. What about parking and traffic . I think that the sunset district typically has a little bit more pricing than some other districts. There are always Pedestrian Safety issues we have to watch out for. Our district has boulevard, we have sunset boulevard. We were also have 19th avenue and great highway. And, so, those are actually state highways that except for sunset boulevard, but the three are state highways that run through our district. And, so, when you have that, we have seen some fatalities along some of those corridors and, so, we work very closely with the state agency, our local agencies to see what sort of pedestrian improvements can be made to help make it more safe for feev l. So, for example, maybe it means that we install more pedestrian countdown signals or install sidewalk build outs so that we can shorten the distance for pedestrians to cross the streets. Or lowering of speed limits. So, all of those things we try to look at comprehensively throughout the district to people can travel safely whether youre a pedestrian, cyclist or driver. Speaking of safety, what are your thoughts on how the city is dealing with crime, especially in your district and how do you think the Police Department is doing . We work very closely with our local Police Station which is terraville Police Station. We have Community Groups in the sunset. They have formed out of response to concern of Public Safety in the neighborhood and i think that generally speaking the sunset district has lower crime levels than many of the other parts of the city. However, because we are bordering ocean beach and Golden Gate Park, we do have pockets of problem areas. And, so, our neighbors are the first to alert us and the Police Station when there are issues and the police has been very responsive to that. What kind of issues are you having with ocean beach or Golden Gate Park . I think that because its so far from the center of the city and because there is so much open space, we do see a lot of encampments in those areas. Some neighbors express issues with safety and feeling safe in their neighborhood and, so, they have worked very closely with our terraville station to make sure they monitor those regularly. What are your thoughts on the citys Economic Development . So, in terms of Economic Development, i think our city is in a very, again, exciting time right now where we are able to attract a lot of businesses who want to locate here in San Francisco. You know, we have seen a recent wave of Technology Companies that have located here in our Downtown Core area and its really transformed our neighborhoods. And i think that as we continue to keep drawing talent and those kind of companies that are citys economic state will continue to grow. Speaking of growth in our city, how do you feel about the role of the warriors coming to San Francisco and the plans for the new stadium . So, the warriors and the plan for the new stadium, you know, the project approvals and the Environmental Review report will actually have to go through the board of supervisors. So, ill have to make my decision then. But the prospect of Something Like that would be very exciting for the city, i think, not only as an economic engine but also in terms of San Franciscos cultural history. To a degree, do you feel the city should subsidize the team . I think that negotiations are still to be sorted out and i think that all of that is in the works. But its something that ill pay close attention to. What would you like to see change in the citys approach to developing its economy . You know, i think that San Francisco is a very creative city and we tend to be on the cutting edge of issues, right . And i think that to that extent of our administration and our various departments such as the office of economic and Work Force Development have always thought of creative approach he that might be new for the region to, for example, attract new businesses or, you know, other sorts of financing mechanisms. And i think that we will continue to do that in San Francisco. Well, are there any other issues that you plan to concentrate on throughout your term as supervisor . Yes, i believe that having worked, you know, for many years in the district 4 office and now as supervisor, over time we have felt that, you know, many times we are very reactive to a lot of the problems that are presented our way and i want to really make sure that during my term i would love to do some longterm planning for the district to make sure that we think maybe 5, 10, 15 years out and think ahead, you know, now and start the planning work and laying the foundation for things we want to do in the future. What are some of your ideas . I will be engaging in a Community Process where we focus on some of our key issue areas that we care a lot about in the district and working with them to kind of layout the groundwork for what we envision for our district in the future.
