Coping with new issue besides the drought. Now very cold weather. Temperatures dropping below 40 degrees in some parts of the bay area. Experts say that is cold enough to hurt fragile and younger plants. Sam bryant says certain condition conditions can cause damage even when the temperature is above the freezing mark. We have a cold storm so theres cloud cover all day long. So the sun never hits the ground. Then at the end of the day, the cloud cover leaves. Thats when we will get frost. Bryant says covering plants will help protect against damage and there are spray products that can do the same job. He asked making sure plants are well watered can help save them. The most important thing is to take precautions before the cold settles in. Watering certain things if were going to get frost, put a sheet or some time some kind of towel around the roots. You know all about that steps. I try. I brought in my plumeria a while ago. Wineries will turn on the water machine. Or a little bit of missed or something. Were not that cold. Okay. It is cold but not seeing 20s yet. Ive seen a couple of 32 and 33, napa airport dipped to 31. Theres a lot of theories out there. Suffice to say its a cold one. 35 santa rosa, people had ice yesterday, now no ice this morning. Thats because the air is drier. Here at city team, a drop in shelter for homeless men. Oftentimes veterans come through here because they need a place to sleep. Not enough resources for them. In the city of san jose. Today, a countywide campaign is being launched to end veteran homelessness by 2017. Estimated 700 veterans are homeless in Santa Clara County. Nearly half of them are considered chronically homeless. Advocates say many suffer from prime ultimately stress or have a physical disability which puts them at an increased risk for living on the streets. The city of san jose, county and Housing Authority are collaborating and directing billions of dollars for resources for them. The campaign is actively recruiting landlords, apartment owners, corporations and faith based groups to help with housing opportunities and services. Its already a challenge because Santa Clara County has such an expensive rental market, but city and county leaders are taking this on, they are exploring options. Were going to talk more about that coming up in the next hour. Were going to try to see once people start waking up, who are sleeping inside the shelter, to see if we can find a homeless veteran that may be willing to talk to us on this veterans day. Dave . Carly fiorina had her usual strong showing with lines that resonated with the republican audience. This is how socialism starts, ladies and gentlemen. We must take our government back. The man behind the wheel had been shot several times and died at the hospital. His passenger was hit in the arm and shes expected to survive. Investigators believe another car pulled alongside the two victims on the freeway and someone inside opened fire. The c. H. P. Doesnt believe this was a random attack. They have evidence, they say, to suggest the victims were in fact targeted. The c. H. P. Says there were a number of other drivers who witnessed this shooting. Because of the time of night and being a holiday, there were multiple drivers on the road. We do have good witnesses we are using for this case. Reporter investigators say the two victims in this case are in their 20s 30s. Both from the east bay. C. H. P.
